I am going to see Kasabian in 10 days in Strasbourg, Muse in Luxembourg in May (and at Wembley Stadium in June) and Chemical Brothers in Luxembourg in July. Was going to see The Killers in Cologne but back in the UK for a wedding that night  :evil:  Hoping more top acts will be coming to the Grand Duchy as well

Have to say I was dissapointed with Razorlight when I saw them overhere. Very short set, their encore was 2 songs which I didn't recognise, the lead singer has a face you'd never tire of punching and it wasn't loud enough.

Seen Killers and U2 (Kanye West supporting)  this year (in 2007) but thats about it. If you count over the last 12 months add on Take That twice, once in Birmingham and once in Cardiff. One had Sugababes supporting (not my kinda music) and one had Beverley Knight who was brilliant.

woop! just found out i'm going to see the kings of leon tonight.

Kasabian last night in Strasbourg were very impressive. The lead singer was clearly off his face but got the crowd going and the band's energy and overall performance really got the place rocking.

Weird venue, capacity of 750 standing and 150 seats at the back. We got lost on the way home though, should have taken an hour and a half but for some reason we ended up in Karlsruhe in Germany and ended up going back to Strasbourg to start again! Got home at 5am, shattered today!!

I'll probably get the piss ripped out of me by all you emo-kids, but i'm seeing Travis in Poxford next week and i'm looking forward to it with girl-ish enthusiasm :oops:

Went to see a festival in Lux on Sunday, only caught the last 3 acts who were

The Hives - Seem to think they are great but they aren't

Queens of the Stone Age - Don't know much of there stuff but they were very good

Killers - Ok in a turn up and play the tunes type way.

Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation was a ridiculously good gig - the venue was tiny making the sound fantastic.

Aerosmith was great - weather was atrocious but it was well worth it.

Another gig tomorrow night.

So another 'big' band come to Luxembourg and I leave feeling a bit dissapointed. Kaiser Chiefs just didn't come up to scratch for me, perhaps it was because the venue was half full and the atmosphere was a bit flat but I left a bit left down. Next up were Keane and I am probably going to get slaughtered for this but they were fabulous live, put in a really energetic performance and the usually laxadaisical (sp) Luxembourgers really responded to them, one of the best live performances I have seen, which was matched by Faithless who choose to play (in my opinion) their most famous song, Insomniac very early in the set. This was met with some top drawer moshing and despite not being able to jump up and down (yet) was one of those spine tingling moments that music can sometimes do to you. You know with Faithless that you are always going to get a good performance and they are worth going to see even if only for Insomniac, God Is a DJ and that old song that I can't remember.

I'm going to see The Damned on Sunday. David Vanian and Captain Sensible are still in the band.

Off to see Neil Young in Kent in July. I've always wanted to see my all time hero before one of us croaks. Saw Kate Rusby last week - excellent.

Bryan Adams Cardiff Arms Park 1993 - probably the best gig I've ever been to that I wasn't playing :D It may be old retro stuff but he's bloody brilliant live

when i saw them at brixton they basically did the whole album so about 45mins-1hr, quality gig, absolutely nuts, proper lads chooooons.

nah, went last night. was sposed to be up in the gods to the left of the stage but our tickets were reallocated, ended up with standing tickets but we sat next to the club wembley seats, thats a fucking posh bar they've got there, bastards!

We were in middle tier club Wembley seats Friday night to the right of the stage. No queues at the bar, padded seats and everything.. Just perfect when you get to my age!  :D

Wahey! Subways last night were amazing! And Koko is a great venue! Not been there before but was very impressed

Yeh, it was packed on every level, as you'd expect. Very different to anything I've been to before. The huge glitter ball is a nice touch too!

now imagine seeing an atmospheric type band there and that experience.

Heard a cheeky rumour that Kasabian are at Glasto, going to perform in the guardian lounge. It was in the paper too..

Well the 1 day festival in Lux was a hot affair, I now look like a tomato!! We got there at 11.30am just in time to see local act.

Eternal Tango - Wasn't expecting much but was surprised to hear that they were actually quite good and played some decent tunes

Cribs - Very early and low down in the order and I was surprised at how bad they were. First song My Bovine Public was possibly the worst performed song I have seen for some time. They dedicated a song to their brother that died earlier this year which was the highlight. Overall I wouldn't recommend them live.

Culcho Candela - A kind of german hip hop/reggae act. I hate this style of music but have to admit live it was ok, aimed at youngsters more though.

Anti-Flag - Appalling although the locals loved them.

We Are Scientists - Superb, really good live and they are very funny between songs, the boy with the mustdash was hilarious!

Mando Diao - Very good live

The Kooks - Better than I thought, the crowd was really up for it as well. Good performance

The Verve - Played a mix of old and new tracks (which were typical Verve songs). BitterSweet Symphony was a clear highlight in the singalong stakes although Lucky Man runs it close. Good to see a band I used to listen to at school and never got a chance to see earlier in life.

Overall for 43 Euro, About £30 pretty decent value!

Awful sound at the Koko though. And extortionate prices for a beer (which turns out to be from a can). Anyone been to the new(ish) Camden Roundhouse? I see My Bloody Valentine have a residency there at the moment. That would be very loud, of course.

Mystery Jets tonight. Not really heard much of their stuff - the songs I have I've either liked or thought were utter gash so it could be quite interesting.

I saw Eagles of Death Metal at the Koko a few years back - awesome, Josh Homme came on to play drums for the encore - he was fucked on something (probably listed in QOTSA's Feel Good Hit of the Summer!)

But yes, sound is a bit of an issue but I like the venue though alot.

He looked quite a bit like Jim The Anvil Neidhart.

Nick Oliveri is awesome - saw him play with the Dwarves post-QOTSA and was still amazing even with a naked gimp masked guy simply named HeWhoCannotBeNamed sharing the stage with him.

That's the fella. I saw QOTSA at Reading a couple of years ago and for the duration of their set he was on stage, stark bollock naked, with just a low slung bass covering his knackers.

This may also have been the year when The Dillinger Escape Plan played and their singer did a dirty on stage and threw it into the crowd.

I got offered some Sean Locke tickets but turned them down because I didn't think I'd like him live. He's got a particularly dry sense of humour IMO.

Booked up to see Elbow in London after Town v Huddersfield in September.

I went there in 2006 - just awesome.

Going next year - cannot wait for that.

Its now my local festival!

Looking forward to day 3, Sigur Ros and then Radiohead.

What was the crowd like there, say compared to the UK? T in the Park is the most mental crowd at a festival I have been to.

It's a really relaxed festival - conditions were always clean, festival goers were generally not morons. 2006 will be hard to beat when I go there again because the weather was amazing and the bands were pretty good too.

Also RW has a brilliant lay-out. Outside the festival site you have a long, straight road with bars and food stalls... which is really nice at night.

The smaller stage is great especially considering the acts that have played in there - I saw Sigur Ros in the smaller stage that year.

One bad thing was they didn't let you take any of your own drinks (inc. Water) into the site - I think you can take/get away with a camelbak thingy though.

Oh and public transport was free when showing your festival ticket.

My transport was from Brussels airport - then to a train station which ushered us on to buses organised by the festival - the bus system was superb because it was bus after bus after bus... The queue was massive but didn't take 20 minutes because we were never stopped moving.

Neil Young excellent last night. The main is still pure class. Out of the support bands My Morning Jacket were very, very good although I'd never heard of them before. Guillemots were absolute bollox as was Rufus Wainright. Primal Scream were on another planet and Supergrass did what Supergrass do.
Apparently the Hop Farm in Kent is going to be turned into a 3 day event next year. Great value for £50 but if you do go next year prepare for a 3 hour wait afterwards in the car park unless they get their act together.

Saw Counting Crows Sunday, my hangover is almost gone, Decent bill with Powderfinger and Benharper et al, but the band i enjoyed most were Bowling for Soup, they were awesome.

Rock Werchter was tremendous but very tiring. From memory I saw

Day 1 - rained all day and after travelling was knackered. Caught a bit of REM and then went to see 2manyDJ's in the tent, Twas awesome
Day 2 - Patrick Watson - Excellent although a power cut cut short the set, Ben Folds, ace. My Morning Jacket, ok from what I heard from outside sitting in the sun. The Verve, class, looking forward to hearing their new stuff. Neil Young, total legend 2 hour set, top drawer
Day 3 - MGMT, ace. Band of Horses - not bad. Editors, decent - Kings of Leon, decent - Sigur Ros, not as good as when I saw them last year mainly because stupid aussies and Irish were making loads of fucking noise as I was trying to listen to the music. Radiohead - Awesome, ended with Paranoid Android
Day 4 - Almost dead by this stage!! Spent most of the day in the pub. Saw Raconteurs - Excellent, Beck - Top Class, Deus - Never heard of them but awesome, have since bought recent album Vantage Point which is ace!!

I would imagine Swindon is a long way down the list of places where AMG would like another "academy" venue.

The usual reliable rumour source, friend of a friend who knows someone who lives next door to someones whose dog used to be owned by someone who'd heard the Carling Academy people were buying the old Mecca bingo hall. Almost definitely just someone thinking it'd be a good idea, and hoping out loud...

Why, out of interest, would you imagine Swindon to be a long way down the list? What criteria would satisfy AMG to move up said list? I guess lack of student base would be a good reason... Plus we've got the Oasis....  :soapy tit wank:

He plays mainly piano and sings, with a band that consists of drums, bass and lead guitar. He uses some electronic device which I think records his voice and then he plays about with it. The guitarist also does some jiggery pokery like recording the noise of a balloon being deflated on his guitar and other such things and adding it into the mix. Certainly very interesting live.

The beauty of living in a small country is that it is fairly easy to get tickets (apart from Deus who are Belgian and so will be a scramble when on sale on Monday)

I've also heard that, not necessarily a Carling but certainly a 3K gig venue for 2 years before it is torn down to build cafes / restaurants etc.

Well it would be good if they did build a proper 3k gig venue, there are definitely enough people here to justify one. I doubt AMG would be interested for the time being though, they would probably look at places like Leeds, Nottingham, Leicester, Southampton and even Reading before considering Swindon?

Southampton I doubt as they have the Guildhall and one is opening in Leeds very soon (might already be open).

But generally I agree that other towns would be a better prospect than Swindon, for any investor. Unless they were a local business.

The Fratellis are good if you can catch them at an indoor gig. They can't quite carry that to outdoor festivals for some reason.

I can see two sides to it. It will get the bigger bands in and it will get the people there. But places like that don't have big bands in every week.

That said I know Dave has been working hard to get some more well known acts into Swindon and has done a good job so far. A venue of this size will only help so I'm glad if it all goes ahead ok.

Just back from a jaunt in London and caught the legendary Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

Wasn’t sure what to expect as they’re all cracking on a bit but by Christ they were fucking awesome.  Classic soul/motown at it’s very best and I highly recommend going to see them if you get the chance.

Charlatans a few days before and they were pretty good.  Nothing to crack one off about but a good night had by all.

Has anyone seen Ryan Adams & The Cardinals live? They're playing Newcastle in November and I am quite tempted.

Elbow are fucking magnificent at the moment.  Sawthem and sigur ros at Latitude.  Sigur ros we're also pretty special.

Mogwai are easily the loudest band I have ever seen. I was deaf for a week after seeing them once in Bristol, and at Reading Festival one year they managed to blow up the PA system. Where are you seeing them? May I suggest ear plugs to reduce the top and low end?

I've seen them a good few times over the years... certainly every album tour... I like KoL live because they just get on with it, no waffling on about politics etc.

They're playing the Metro Arena in Newcastle which seems too big.

Yeah i seen them in swindon and thought they were awesome, You will be surprised at just how big they are, they sold out the 02 arena in just under an hour, and listening to some of the tracks from the new album it will be one of if not the best of the year

Not a massive fan of Ting Tings but Subways are great live! I saw Pigeon Detectives as a support band last year and as long as it's your kind of music you're bound to have a good time!

Cage the Elephant are quite good live, i saw them supporting the Subways earlier in the year. I didn't know any of their songs or owt, but they played well, and were quite toe-tap worthy.

I've got tickets to see Oasis at the Roundhouse as part of BBC Electric proms, can't wait. I missed out on tickets for their tour, so getting tickets to see them in a venue that isn't much larger than the town end certainly makes up for it.  :)

I got tickets today for it, they go on general sale 10pm tonight! I guess Ticketmaster etc will do them.

The killers are touring next year.Their UK tour kicks off at the O2 arena on 23-24 February and takes in further dates at arenas in Birmingham (26), Cardiff (28), Sheffield (March 2) , Nottingham (3), Aberdeen (5), Glasgow (6), Newcastle (7) and Manchester (9).

Tickets go on sale 10am Friday (10th).

Might have to get me some of that.

Saw old Stevie Wonder on Friday, which was ok.  Clasic stuff but not my cup of tea and it was like being surrounded by a few thousand middle aged men and women bobbing along at a wedding.

Going to see Elbow at Roundhouse on Saturday after the football, is it a smallish venue then?

I read on their website that it holds 2000-3000 depending whether seating/standing etc. Let me know what it's like queue-wise... need to know what time to get down there. I can't imagine it'll be too bad, with so few people.

The roundhouse is 3000.  Queuing is fine. Straight though front doors up the stairs and into the venue. I suspect elbow will be on around 9.  Im off to see them in Cardiff.  If anyone needs info on venue sizes or venue details I've visited most of the and have their specs.

The Subways tonight at Southampton Guildhall, anyone ever been? What's it like and that?

Nice old council building.  But a bit bland because of that.  High stage so good views everwhere. A venue with carpets which is quite odd.  Bar down one side. Very strict no crowd surfing policy.  You will be chucked out out if you do it.

I like 'em.

The acoustics aren't all that great. Lots of bars nearby.

Im contemplating getrting tickets to Al Murray live for my Boyfriend for his birthday as he is a fan - did anyone see my boss and his brother in law in the front row getting heckled last Friday night on Al Murrays happy hour?? (It was Nick the teacher and Mike the leisure centre manager!!)

The first support band was great, kinda hard-folk music..really weird but good.
Second got bottled of the stage, water chucked at them etc...not good at all.
Subways were fookin amazing though, the lead singer is just crazy. Staged dived 3 times, from the left then the right and right down the middle..fell right on top of our group really funny.
Got chatting to him after the gig, really friendly guy.
Recommend seeing them if you haven't, seen them twice now and they never disappoint.

Saw Al Murray last year in Birmingham (the day we lost to Yeovil on the box...BEST Holdings? Who are they?) very good, exactly what you would expect.  Top night out.

Definately give the a recommendation live.  Caught them this year almost by accident at Glasto and while they weren't my cup of tea they were fucking brilliant live.  Booked to see them in March in Liverpool.

Saw Kay's sidekick Greggs' ambassador Paddy McGuiness last week doing stand-up last week.  Was ok a bit to reliant on the crude factor, which I do enjoy but gets a bit tedious after an hour and a half. 

I saw Paddy McGuinness in Swindon a few weeks back Dazzza. Most of his stuff is funny, but like you say he does rely on his 'blue' material quite a bit.

Mates of mine were on channel 5 news reecntly as they won the wedding video of the year or some such bollocks.  The video was to the tune of Friday Im In Love by The Cure shot in a proper video style.  Not sure it would have been my choice to do it like that.  There was some lip synching to that as well.

And on Gigs, Im at Shepherds Bush Empire for Fleet Foxes tonight.  Who really are quite magnificent if retro.

I saw them on Tools Holland last night and thought they were reet good... never heard of them before.

Had tickets to see Fleet Foxes in Bristol last week but couldn't make it.

Have to say Saturday was the best Fall gig I've been to

Fleet Foxes.  Excellent.  Really holds up well against the album live, which considering the 4 part harmonies they do is, I would have thought, pretty difficult to replicate.  They've also got a real charm and prescence about them in person as well.  There's definetly something more there than just a copy of the album.  Audience was captivated, could hear apin drop during the quieter numbers.

They're now doing 2 shows at the roundhouse in camden next feb.  First one sold out already.

Saw the Kaisers last week in New York and they were very Meh and smelling kike they've past their sell by date.  I've always enjoyed a drunken bounce to the Kaisers and it may have been a room full of Yanks and half-wit Paddys straight off Craggy Island but I have to admit they were absolutely forgettable.

Also caught Jersey Boys at the theatre and I wan't expecting much but it was genuinely fucking brilliant and entertaining at the same time.  Well sorth a sniff and the quality is absolutely spot on.

 Couple of weeks back, one of my lady friends had done a 100 lengths of a swimming pool  for a charity thing....despite the fact she'd had a good scrub afterwards, the smell and taste of chlorine didn't half linger in some out of the way places.  :)  Had I been a chlorine fetishist, then it would have been  :cloud9: unfortunately I'm not.

Saw DEUS last night in Luxemborg.

I really like them, they are massive in Central Europe but I don't believe they are very well known anywhere else. Definately underrated and excellent live.

I saw them at Rock Werchter a couple of years back and they were pretty decent. I'm pretty sure they tour England.

Their current album Vantage Point is well worth a listen Rich. I don't have any of their older stuff but I may investigate it.

i saw the kings of leon the other night and they were very good.

I'm thinking about getting tickets for Kings of Leon at the O2 next year, but I'm not really a fan of huge venues.

Im not a big fan either of big venues or KOL however they are a band on top of their game, tight as fuck, cracking sound and big tune one after the other. great night.

I saw the Fratelli's last night, was a good laugh.

Pigeon Detectives on Monday at the big gym hall.

I think they're one of those bands which actually manage to be better live.

Haven't seen them for a few years now... Last time was at Plymouth Pavillions which a is notoriously shit venue for sound - they were still great though.

Still think their first two albums are waaaaay better than their 3rd and 4th. Still good though.

I've just drunkenly bought tickets for Ed Byrne as well.

Should be a good gig! Saw pigeons at glasto on a sunday...sun was shining, booze was consumed and i remember merely one song..was a good day.

Pijins were good, very entertaining live band. Shame there was so many 15 year olds there.

Did I ever mention I met Lynval once? I was canvassing for Dave Nellist in Cov South East, and as we're going through the canvass sheets at the end of one street his name kind of lept off the page. There were about a dozen of us fighting for that canvass sheet but my friend Mark ended up getting to knock his door, with a crowd of us hanging around at the gate.

He was sound, came out to say hello to us all and signed a load of merchandise for us to auction off to raise some cash.

Well they probably do if they're intending to do anything more than just tour and play the hits. I don't think they could write anything new, that you could define as new "Specials" material without him, he was too central to their writing process.

Mind you all they need to do for the live shows is get in some psycho that can play keyboards and is happy to twat a member of the audience at every other gig.

I tried to get tickets last night (thier web Site had a Pre release option) but I forgot my Credit Card.Then I forgot when I got home and  by the time i got round to it they were all gone.

Likliehood is that more dates will be announced.  At least 1 at Birmingham from what Im hearing.
