I went to the salubrious settings of Hatfield House yesterday for "Folk By The Oak". Seth Lakeman headlined and was excellent. Show of Hands were also class as was Kathryn Roberts.
A very surreal moment was supplied by Ade Edmonson and the Bad Shepherds who provided an interesrting version of  Making plans for Nigel. I went 2 years ago and a guy called Jim Moray played XTC All The Pretty Girls.
A little bit of Swindon in sunny Hatfield.
A good day out for all folkies.

Punk played on mandolin folk style wasn't my cup of tea. It has a novelty value hearing Anarchy in the UK but its very hit and miss. Some tracks work and some don't. They didn't play it yesterday but their version of Down In the Tube Station at Midnight is very good.

Saw MF DOOM, a bit of PJ Harvey, Company Flow, and Portishead, at Alexandra Palace on Saturday. Brilliant venue in terms of the size of the rooms and sound quality. Portishead aren't my cup of tea but everyone else liked them, for me Doom was the highlight though.

Ade Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds

If only they'd reform Bad News for a new album. Preferred their comedy to Spinal Tap TBH.
