Ricky Gervais tonight. After years of being disappointed by big name stand-ups (Gervais included) I'm prepared for it to be quite unfunny, hopefully that way it'll be good, which kind of means I'm expecting it to be good, which defeats my first point.

Yet you keep on paying good money to see them. Lots of good comedians out there though and most of them won't cost you a small fortune to see them!

I don't think they charge for parking at the Oasis anymore do they?

There is also parking in the street and a car park opposite - you shouldn't have any problems.

only really rich hall, jimmy carr and gervais have been a letdown. had to give gervais another chance because the office is genius, but it seems he isn't that good without merchant. jimmy carr was outclassed by the support, the giant who now plays the headmaster on inbetweeners. bill bailey was ace, twice. alan carr was good, and had a then unknown michael mcintyre as support who was brilliant.

trouble with the cheap gigs is the acts are very hit and miss. plus you have to get to london really, jongleurs around the country are chavvy shitholes with rubbish acts.

I've seen Paddy McGuinness (twice), Ed Byrne, Dave Spikey, Dave Gorman and Lee Evans in Swindon. None were more than £15 and all were very good. Lee Mack in a couple of weeks as well.

Saw RGerv in Oxford on Monday. Thought his delivery was superb, his material a bit stale.

He didn't make any real insights or good observational comedy, just a load of jokes about gays, racism, masturbation etc. Which he does well, but when you've heard it so often, you'd hope for a man of his intelligence he'd be able to go a bit deeper.

Personally I just don't think he had enough time to write enough material of a really high quality with so many projects going on at the same time.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I suppose you come to expect so much than Gerv that if he's only slightly below what you hoped you feel disappointed.

The XFM radio shows are still by far and away the best work he's ever done, although they only worked so well because of his success with The Office.

Saw Marillion last night.

Didn't know any of their songs but they played for 2 and a half hours and were generally pretty good.

It was my old man who wanted to go really. I can pretty much stick most live music to be fair.
