Title: Bristol Rovers v Swindon pre match chat and matchday thread.
Post by: JoeMezz on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, 19:12:09
See they go on sale to season ticket holders tomorrow. We've got 3 season tickets, under my old man's name. His account just says 'season ticket holder.' Will I be able to get 3?

I have the same question!

I've been able to buy home tickets that way, but that was then..

edit:
I have 3 season tickets, one for me and 2 u18s.

the u18s have their own online account, so I've added them into "my network" and I should be able to manage tickets for them.

I assume you are talking online...

You used to be able to add other tickets using their customer number on the network option.

Yeah also have the same issue here, I’m sure it would be easy to work out if I could make it into the club shop but unable too and will probably be sold out by the time I can 😫 have sent the club an email to clarify how it works so will share if I find anything out.

I'd imagine the likes of Stevenage hasn't helped. 500 Terraced and 200 Seated. A bit shit really, but probably the reason Northampton won't release more also.

Could well be wrong, but it's the only logical reason that makes sense to me... In the current climate and without football for such a prolonged period, you'd imagine clubs, especially League 2 clubs, would want as many away fans through the gate as possible.

I would imagine twats throwing seats and generally being bell ends leads to teams comparing revenue from sales with stewarding and police costs and thinking fuck it. the reduction in our travelling support just being a pleasing benefit.

I am sure thats probably the underlying reason, now we know how the Rovers fans felt a couple of years ago when they ripped up our seats on the Bank and threw them on the pitch, for which they never recieved any warning of conduct and their club never apologised for either.

That's it, look at that 130 knackers needed, not sure what clubs pay for extra police but as £22 a ticket 700 additional tickets only brings in just over 15k, its probably just not worth it.

It's a mess, I've got 2 season tickets but won't let me assign on the second so can only buy one.

Trying to ring on the 0330 number and rings but don't even get an option to select. How can all things ticketing be such a shambles still, you'd think it would be priority number 1 to get sorted.

Got through on the phone and some really confused sounding girl didn't have a clue what to do, just said she thinks it's sold out. I get they've had a lot to do but ticketing in general is a farce at the minute.

theakston. it is possible.

but you need to have 2 accounts (1 for each st) and added the second season ticket account  to your network.

you should then be able to select 2 as quantity and assign second to someone in your 'network'.

problem is I did this ages ago and can't remember the process. it did involve getting the other accounts 'approval' (email was sent to them somewhere down the line)

But I bought both season tickets on my account so my other half has never had an account and doesn't want an account. So basically I've gotta register a new account to a fake email or something just to get around an awful ticketing system, utter shambles.

Remember this game, was only 11 at the time. Remember being sat in the Arkrells with my grandad, rovers went 1-0 up and must have been 3 or 4 rovers fans jump up a few rows back, seem to recall them getting a good few slaps! The best part was by the time they were being escorted down the steps we had gone 2-1 up :D

You need to have two client references and have the assign rights to purchase on the other persons behalf.
This hasn’t changed since on line ticketing was set up.
I purchase mine and both my kids for every away game.

Unfortunately I can’t remember how I initially sorted this out.
Would help I agree if you could speak to someone at the club who could sort it out.

Fucking stupid if we've sold out in a few hours - Where were you all when we were owned by a cunt.

Didn't have trouble getting tickets when we were winning the league a couple of years ago - will be the first game I've missed this season.

A big thank you to all those cunts at Stevenage who's actions have, undoubtedly, led to us getting reduced allocations at Northampton and Rovers.

Yep both had my ID. Ended up having to make a ‘fake’ account and get the club to move one of the season tickets to this. In the intervening period it of course sold out. Like I say all things tickets are a shambles from selling tickets through to actually getting fans into the ground on match day’s!

They're only 3 points worse off than us after 9 games and have won the same amount as us (3).
They're actually on a better run of form than us, having won 2 of their last 4, we haven't won in the last 4.

This won't be an easy game, but reckon we'll nick it 2-1.

Is there an away fans pub?

It will be interesting to see if the same kids that were at Northampton and Stevenage go to Bristol. I suspect given the edge from Garner and Pitman and the fact we haven't played Rovers in front of a crowd for a while, it's going to be tense off the pitch with a largish police presence.

Just a conversation with a Gas supporter at the depot. He thinks they could win narrowly or get smashed. I had to laugh, I told him we won’t smash you but we could win narrowly or get beat like he said narrowly. I still don’t think it is going to be a draw.

I have also drank in the city centre on previous visits there, but can be a right pain getting over to the ground.

If you likes yer craft beers there is a very good bottle shop along Gloucester Road, "Bottles and Books", about a 10 minute walk from the Memorial Stadium.

Last time I went they had several taps to choose from for a sit in (it isn't very big, mind you) as well as a load of fridges full of a very wide range of cans.

Find a pub that has real ales and not just that gassy shit and drink as much as you can, thems the rules.
Plenty of boozers on the main drag from the city centre to the ground.

Might well give the Gloucester Road Alehouse & Kitchen a go.

Looking like wet weather gear and singing in the rain.

I've just finished listening to the LSP covering last weekend's game against Col U and I can't help but agreeing with Rich P re the game tomorrow.

I think Barton is going to have Rovers right up for it tomorrow and they are going to be in our faces from the start. We are going to have to play intelligently tomorrow and hopefully with a strong referee this will backfire and we'll be able to keep cool and play our game. I do fear however that this might not be the case and we might wilt under their aggressive stance.

I hope to be very wrong but think we might lose tomorrow. 2-0

Since 1968 in all competitions we have lost 8 times at Rovers but won 9 times with 4 ending as draws, during that run we manged to find the net 4 times in 5 seperate games.

In those 21 games we have scored 33 times conceding just 26, we have kept 4 clean sheets there in that time too.

For tomorrows game Rovers have imprtant players Nicholson and ex Town striker Leon Clarke missing and a couple of other players touch and go apparently.

I fully expect Piemaster Pitman to score and do the Truffle Shuffle in front of Town fans.

They have been playing 3421 with Pieman as the fairy on the Christmas tree so similar formation to how we have been lining up recently. They too like possession and keeping hold of the ball.

Rovers fans also have been berating their lack of goals with only 8 scored so far in their 9 games compared to our 9, but,  they have conceded double our goals against with 14 so far. They have 3 wins and 2 draw with 5 defeats and sit 9 places below us in 18th place just 3 points behind us.

Yes, it's a single camera from a good angle with the BBC radio commentary synched.  You can usually hear the crowd quite clearly.  In one of our games last season, they couldn't get the Commentary set-up so we got to hear a mic that was next to the Managers bench and heard every last ting our Manager at the time was shouting.  It was not pleasant.

Avon calling. Pre match or-right moi luvver in The Commercial Rooms.
A couple of coffee chasers before sales of medicinal waters start.

With the rain, the ball should zip across the surface today, which might make for a more up tempo affair.
Should be a good atmosphere and the locals will have been whipped up into a frenzy following the sold out Wurzels gig here the other day.
Wonder if Pitman will be playing, defend correctly & he shouldn't be a problem.
The late Adge Cutler would probably have more pace & movement even now.

Hopefully no scenes of thuggish behaviour after the match, then again should be well away from the ground by the time Barton finishes media duties.
I'm guessing that JB still tries to project the pseudo intellectual persona, except that the invites to Question Time have long since dried up & he fucked that up anyway.

Can Garner do quiet smug mode if we win.
Must have been miffed to have the blame for relegation heaped on him by someone who had the best part of half a season to save them.

Not seen us score 4 here in the league unlike the other 3 venues.
Today would be a good time for that, but a sharing of the spoils more likely.
A win to go with the soaking would be gert lush.
Could be Goodnight Irene for Joey as well.

Even though I'm at the games it's interesting to read back at half & full time.
A 25+ page match day thread is always better than a 10 page one.

I only started doing it so that people who are only listening to matches can get a bit more of a mental image of how goals/shots/incidents actually look as the commentators, as difficult a job as they have, often do things spur of the moment and never fully descide who crossed/pass/shot from what side etc.

Often its "tha ball came in the box and Simpson hits the back of the net" that sort of thing, rather than "KKH passes to Gladwin whos cross from deep is put onto Simpsons head and he hits the bottom corner from 10 yards out".

Of course interspersed by "Iandolo misses the ball and puts us in trouble at the back" or "Conroys long pass goes straight into touch" etc etc :)

For all those who have never been to the Mem this is the amazing stadium that awaits your arrival.

Thanks for the comments everyone I am touched, not in a Jimmy Saville way! :)

I reside on the South Somerset and the band dispersed naturally about 3 years ago now, I am too old for that shit now anyway!

Moles tried to get us but we couldnt come to terms on dates, in the end we never managed to get to Swindon or Bath but most of the Bristol venues of note with some wide ranging bands as support or we were support for, a great 8 years of gigging.

I am certainly not Fish although I used to be able to drink like one!

Assuming we are going with 3 CBs (Odimayo, Conroy, Crichlow) and wing backs (KKH, Iandolo) then that midfield is still an unbalanced mess imo

Gladwin, Payne, Reed & Gilbert how do the line up 2-2, 1-3, 1-2-1, 3-1?

                            Wollacott
        Odimayo        Conroy        Crichlow
KKH                        Reed                          Iandolo

        Gladwin            Payne             Gilbert
                              Simpson

Is pretty much how it lined up last week but Gladwin was drawn wider right and Gilbert given more of a free role but Gilbert and Payne were interchanging but also trying to play similar roles of ball carrier and got in each others way a bit.

Gilbert is not a striker hes a ball carrying number 10 or winger but he will never be a striker the gap between him and Simpson is way too big.

As is the gap between Reed and Payne in the midfield.

no general. in a derby game. weird
If it’s a genuine selection choice then I’m sorry but Garner is starting to come across as a bit of tit and completely inflexible.

Not convinced we play with three upfront.
Definately just 1 up top last week. was more like a 351 than 343.

                            Wollacott
        Odimayo        Conroy        Crichlow
KKH                        Reed                          Iandolo

        Gladwin            Payne             Gilbert
                              Simpson

Is pretty much how it lined up last week but Gladwin was drawn wider right and Gilbert given more of a free role but Gilbert and Payne were interchanging but also trying to play similar roles of ball carrier and got in each others way a bit.

Gilbert is not a striker hes a ball carrying number 10 or winger but he will never be a striker the gap between him and Simpson is way too big.

As is the gap between Reed and Payne in the midfield.

Our starting XI just screams 4231 to me

Odimayo, Conroy, Crichlow, Iandolo
Reed, Gladwin
KKH, Payne, Gilbert
Simpson

(Obviously Grant a better option that Gladwin)

Although by I say this every week.
I’ll leave it be now

Ha fair, so 3 - 2(wide)- 2(central)- 2(wide cutting in)- 1

Ps. There is no way KKH is playing as the right forward. He's been at wing back

The line up is very flexible at the back between 3/4/5 but most of the time it seems way nearer 5 at the back than 4.

I know he’s playing as wing back and I don’t think we are playing 4231 but I do think we have the players for it and would be a better more balanced side for it. Just my opinion though.

We beat Mansfield.
Only looked decent and scored once he’d been hooked off.

Extremely small sample size admittedly but he was awful that game.

Perhaps but on the flip side you have two holding midfielders to help. Grant would be more than capable of dropping back in at CB to make it back 5 if/when needed

Plus, you would hope with the attacking 3 midfielders being a bit further up the pitch & closer to Simpson we might attack more and have to defend less. That my logic behind it anyway - whether it would work like that is another matter

4-3-3 with Grant, Lyden and Reed would be fun to watch. Just as it was when Grant, Lyden and Doughty were playing teams off the park 2 years ago.

4-2-3-1 with Gladwin in the 2 and the back 4 we have currently would be quite alarming however!

4-2-3-1.   In the “2”.  Is one a holding MF and the other and attacking.   Then the wingbacks attack ?

All hypothetical but I wouldn’t be starting Gladwin full stop currently & would never deploy him as holding midfielder.

Still not convinced we’d have an issue with a back 4. Defending hasn’t really been our weakness this season.

Great turn by Conroy in the box. Puts it along the floor. Critchlow tries to pass it into the far corner and it goes wide.

We need to capitalise second half. If it stays as it is, Garner will “draw the positives” about our play, when in fact, a consistent failure to turn possession into goals suggests the strategy is flawed…. Losing is losing, and it’s his job to make us competitive not create passing stats. Come on town.

It's a clear strategic error to start the season without an adequate strike force.  (Yes, difficult circumstances etc.)  You can overthink football sometimes.  Matches are won when you score at least one goal more than the other team.  Without goal scorers, nothing else matters.

Simpson strikes me as someone who could develop in to a superb talent in a year or two.  But sticking all our goal-scoring eggs in his basket right now doesn't look like paying off.

I'll probably get the ire of some for bullying a player or something, but Iandolo can just fuck off please.  He is an absolute liability in defence (he was actually beaten 3 times by the same ball, one of which they scored from) and he seems to have gone to complete pot at crossing.

Payne is a symptom of where I think Garner is a great coach and not going to make it as a Manager.  What on earth are we thinking of having him play next to Reed?  He has to be in the final third to create chances and cause a defender to panic.  He may look good on the ball in a game like this - because Rovers are proper terrible - but he slows attacks down with too many touches a fair amount of the time.  That's not the problem though, he plays like a school kid, we know that, so defending he is all over the shop chasing.  Great for a number 10, a huge issue for someone there in an anchor position.  Sometimes you can see his shirt number having to make a 40 yard run back because he has chased so far away from his position.

Grrrrr.

We just do not have players who look like they can do one of two critical things - final ball (gamble) or finish (gamble).  We don't have any gamblers, everything becomes safe.  Playing as coached no doubt, but it's also an instinct in a player and we seem to have filled the team with players who will follow instruction well.  We sort of look good, but we'll have plenty of games like this against teams that we could very well beat if we just assessed the ability of the two sets of eleven players.

So frustrating watching us do just about everything so far this afternoon except put the ball in the net.

Can't help but feel a Doyle or a Yates would have bagged one or two in that first half - we just seem a little clueless when it comes to that killer moment after all the build up play.

Still optimistic for the second half -  COYR

Multiple players can take blame, the question is whether they are a positive or negative for the team on balance of their good and bad.  Their player did well to pull Crichlow forward and he ended up in no mans land as a result.  However, Iandolo got beat by that same pass three times and you have three central defenders for a reason.  Pitman is not mobile so the other two should be able to cover over.  The move in isolation is good and the defence fails as a unit.  Iandolo goes on to get caught two more times by the same ball, just the others do a better job of cleaning it up/holding a line.

They are both the type of player we lack - both would rather miss three in a game than risk not scoring.  Complete opposite approach to our current crop.  McKirdy is probably the only one I have seen who has it in him to waste a bunch of chances.  Gladwin can do it, but is a faint outline of his past self.

BTW, it's not anger/being down on the team from me.  It's the frustration of seeing we are just a couple of things away from being a very good team but knowing the boss probably sees it differently.  Not changing my view on how the season could go either - we'll probably bob around 10th, up and down around that level.  I really hope we find that missing piece in January.

Pasted them from first to last.

RobT summed it up at half time that we lack 'gamblers' - McKirdy on for Gilbert gave us the cutting edge

The most fun we've been to watch for a long long time. And that includes the first half where despite our lack of ruthlessness, we created loads of chances

Rovers were woeful, looked like us last season

Fair fucks to Garner for the change so early in the half.  McKirdy was everything we needed.  His selfish desire to be on the ball in and around the box caused the havoc that was needed.  The third goal also showed that we really should take a pat on the back for our possession football but not be ashamed of just popping some balls in.  Defenders at this level will fuck up.

Rovers were proper awful mind.

Garner:
- Played well first half.
- Scratching head how we were 1-0 down. Lapse of concentration
- Could have had 6 today.
- Lots of balls flashing across 6 yard box
- Hard work on training ground enabled us to control game
- Minor tactical adjustments at half time
- Second half: Didnt panic or lose our way
- McKidy: Needed a spark. Has no fear and always wants to make things happen
- Big impact. Lifts people. Doesnt always work, but lads love having him out there
- Last 2 weeks: They have hardly got into our box
- Difference today is we created more
- Unchanged team. Performance was very good last week apart from scoring. Wanted players to realise that
- Difficult place to come.
- Looking forward to Forest Green next week
- Have players with different attributes.
- Simpson 19 years old. He's going to be up and down
- Different times of the season players will step in and step out.
- Satisfaction of today was getting what we deserved.
- Focus was on our preparation and process. Blocked out the noise.
- Well deserved 3 points
- Focus is always on the game. Bit obsessive. Dont think about previous teams
- Wants to win every game
- Forest Green: Took fixture on with Sky and only had a couple potentially away. Now we are going to be 3 or 4 down. But, we have a strong squad and opportunities for others
- Apparently no option to call it off being as its on Sky
- Trying to get another goalkeeper in as will be without Wollacott
- Will enjoy watching todays game back. Look physically stronger and quicker.

Fuck them.....i have played, coach, and watched a lot of soccer....Bristol was outplayed, out classed and lucky to only concede 3 goals...if swindon finds a better striker in my opinion...one that is faster, sneaky and willing to go all out...they will score a lot of goals with their possession of the ball

Would seem a short sighted decision if just £10k. A bad result could easily knock a few hundred off the gate for following home game and then you negate the Sky money and have the double whammy of losing the points as well.

Gladders:
- Delighted with the result and performance
- Lapse in concentration for the goal but limited them to little else
- System we play dominates the ball
- No echoes of Luke Williams. Management have different ideas
- Longer season goes on the stronger we get
- Took penalty because Payne was not on pitch
- If you put them hard and low it doesnt matter what the keeper does
- Not been happy with form. Havent played for 6 months.
- Felt better in last couple of weeks
- Known what is expected of him.
- Game hasnt changed too much since he was here before. Just knowing right times to drift past people
- Club point of view. Main aim to consolidate
- Squad confident what they can do on the pitch
- Chemistry between team is that people get on and work hard in training
- Put in good performances. Its just about hitting the back of the net

Like a lower league Jack Grealish.

Just won 3-1 and because you can't moan about that you accuse the manager of lying
No I just fail to believe you can be forced to play a game if a high number of players are away on international duty, it’s the whole reason there are no PL or championship games. If we are being forced we should be challenging sky and the EFL for double standards.

Just got home from the game, watched from behind enemy lines, sat just behind the Rovers dugout, and struggled to keep my mouth shut at times but I lived to tell the tale.

In the first half, I felt like we largely dominated. Rovers scored against the run of play but we were undeterred in how they wanted t play football and stuck to our guns. We focused our attack down the left where they didn't have a natural defender and just kept picking at them.

Simpson is a decent player but we play balls into him completely against his style of play. He's not quick enough to run onto a ball over the top but we continue to feed those balls into him. One of the first comments from the Rovers fans I remember is something like 'we just to be good at passing the ball around at the back too' but this possession play was the underpinning of our success today. The patient build-up, pulling Rovers apart piece by piece. Unlucky to go into halftime 1-0 down IMO with all the opportunities we created. Rovers fans around me were shouting at Barton to change it up for the 2nd half. They had no confidence being 1-0 up that it would hold.

2nd half, we came out and carried on playing our style. Slowly pinning Rovers defence back deep in their own half. I can confirm Rovers fans have the same opinions on Pitman as he did with us, with one gentleman suggesting that he shared the same medical diagnoses of piles judging by how he waddles around the pitch... Why someone felt the need to shout that out on the terrace, god knows but they are a strange bunch...

Joey Barton spent largely the first half banging his head on the dugout in frustration, screaming at everyone. In comparison, 2nd half he was very, speechless on the sidelines barely moving. After all the shit he spouted in the pre-match media this week, he looks pretty stupid now!

The ref had an up and down game. Defensively, we had our hands all over Pitman and looked like we were trying to tweak his nipples from behind in honesty, but we got away with it. One thing that made me laugh, Pitman fell over in front of the Gas dugout wanting a freekick and then proceeded to pick the ball up thinking the ref had to give it to him. Only for the ref to blow for a free kick to Swindon. Pitman threw the ball into the dugout only for Swindon to take a throw-in..?

We kept pushing hard and got the deserved equaliser, penalty and icing on the cake. Super happy for McKirdy as when he was coming on, the abuse he got from the Rovers fans for his ponytail, he simply turned around and smiled like an assassin to the home fans.

Buzzing to have seen us win from behind enemy lines. Very strange experience but well worth it!! The highlight of the day towards the end of the game, Swindon fans oleing the successful passes for one Rovers fan to scream 'WE'RE GETTING FUCKING OLE'D, AT HOME, TO FUCKING SWINDON!!!! JOEY BARTON, YOU FUCKING C*NT, CAN YOU HEAR THEM TAKING THE COMPLETE PISS OUT OF US!?!?' The perfect cherry on top for a glorious derby day win!

I would hate to be your missus, Theakston. I bet you’re a hard man to please when your dinner gets put on the table  :D

We’ve just thumped our local rivals away from home, cheer up fella. It’s entirely plausible that with the current situation at the club, the opportunity of an additional and unexpected £10,000 is worth risking against some international call ups when we are well placed in the league.

Superb today, what else if there to say - we can only enjoy these moments given the recent dross we’ve been served up  :beers:

One concern actually from today's game. Alex Gilbert.

Looked weak on the ball, the dugout was screaming at him to get into the box more and ultimately got hauled off early. Is he good enough? Certainly thinks he's good enough running around with his white boots...

Agree entirely, we’re not flush with cash. £10k is four months salary for a player in the January transfer window or £4K toward some bonuses.

The way I’m understanding it is that sky said ‘we’ll show the game, but regardless of international call ups you have to play it’ and we said yes. Presumably Plymouth & Pompey called theirs off a few weeks back.

That was his poorest game but he has been very good lately. I think we need to remember this is his first ever experience of professional football at 1st team level. He has made a bigger impact than many players have afetr 4 league games for me

Not at all, it just seems a massive own goal that we’ve won for the first time in over a month and rather than building up momentum we are hamstrung for the next game as we are without 4 players, their absence in training alone will surely be less than ideal. My biggest concern is Ward has looked poor in the games he’s played so without JW in a match against the league leaders is far from ideal. Just seems very naive by the club and massive double standards from the EFL and Sky if we are really locked in.

Has Ward looked poor? He has played two matches, a clean sheet away at League 1 Cambridge and a decent goal conceded against Arsenal. I thought his distribution could have been improved during the latter at times but based on the very little he’s played, I’d say he’s a competent back up at League 2 level.

Could be a number of things. Grant has ATM cult status @ SN1. It is his to keep or lose. The management has a duty to ensure the club is successful on and off the field. If that means Grant doesn’t play for whatever reason then we have to accept that.

Some cracking moments outside the ground, a 70 year old Gas fan giving my lad the middle finger and the Ian Holloway lookalike who was giving it large when Rovers took the lead.
Standing on the steps of the stand out the back getting angry. Holloway gives us a wave :)

Pitman is absolutely shite.

Yes, that was a new one on me so looked it up when I got home.
New concussion rules are being trialled this year.
If a player has suspected concussion they must be substituted immediately. Teams can make up to 2 such substitutions and if they do then the opposition team also gets the ability to make additional normal substitutions.

Iandolo is a bit of an enigma isn’t he. Very talented but he needs to be played in midfield. Problem is we are overloaded with talented midfielders so how does he get a game.

Gladwin’s best game, for me.

Special shout out for the Rovers Foghorn Leghorn BOOOO fan - amazing stamina to boo so often and for so long!

I’m not sure the missing players will be such a huge problem v FGR. Wollacott will be a big miss but Ward looked decent enough in his couple of games. Most would like to see McKirdy start so that’s Gilbert’s replacement. Garner isn’t picking Grant anyway and Williams seems to be a bit part player for some strange reason.

Would just like to see us play the entire 90 mins how we played the last 45 yesterday.

Would have been more than happy to get three points from the six in the away games at Brovers and the Vegans,  so next week is a free hit, anything out of that would be a bonus.
Have been impressed with McKirdys pace since he made the squad, seems to have changed the game single handed yesterday, hope he starts at the Vegans, could be his best opportunity to claim a first team place.  And out best chance to score a goal in the first half !!.

Dominant display and a well deserved win.
Good fun on the away terrace.
The waterproof jacket wasn't and still exhaling red smoke this morning.
A turn of pace (or a very gentle jog by anybody else's standards) needed on the approach to Temple Meads to just make the 7 o'clock train.

Normally having 4 first teamers on their first loan in the football league could be an issue with inconsistent performances.
However it's a credit to their quality and possibly also to the coaching setup & environment here that they have stepped up and played well with more ups than downs.
Gilbert is still finding his feet and a goal or an assist would do him good.
First out of sorts performance from Simpson yesterday otherwise he's been very good, just needs to be more clinical with finishing.
KKH has grown into the wing back role and is back to early season form after a slight dip. The final ball and decision making will improve.
Crichlow has been very solid. Not sure what his contract situation with Huddersfield is but must be worth an approach next summer.

Although not a loan can add JoJo, who has been excellent, to the above as well with only a handful of league appearances.

Would just like to see us play the entire 90 mins how we played the last 45 yesterday.

I just dont think Garner sees the game played that way for 90 minutes.

Garner seems to like to spend the first half sussing out how teams are set up against us by playing keep ball and gently probing. Planly works better away from home when we're not expected to be on the front foot and when the opposition is as poor ss yesterday.

Not so well as against Port Vale who pressed very well, same likely next week. It would be good for us to play a different way sometimes.

Yesterday he worked out that Rovers although attempting a press of sorts only had Pitman doing it, so for the second half we seemed to move our play further up the pitch and as a result were finding space centrally in and around the box as well as wide and getting more players in the box.

Mikirdy provided the much needed spark in the final third yesterday, taking people on and causing panic. Gilbert wasn't providng it so was replaced.

Mikirdy taking players on, players getting in the box and a couple of howlers from Rovers and we get three goals.

I see mckirdy as an impact sub who can change matches as he did yesterday, when he has started games he doesn't have the same impetus to get at them.

We always start games slowly and thats not Mkirdys game, he likes the ball played to him so he can run at teams, that opportunity doesn't come often early in games this season as we try to keep it slow and methodical early doors.

Easily the best player on the pitch when he came on yesterday and ran his socks off chasing everything and often winning them.

Gilbert is much more of a ball carrier who doesnt take a large amount of risks which is what Garner likes in 1st half of games.

Disappointed with Simpson yesterday as it was by far his poorest game but as they came on the pitch his body language looked poor when he saw how hard it was raining and he never really got into the game against what was in essence the weakest defence we have come up against all season so far, he should have been in his element but he just was never at the races.

Great result and a lot of positive comments from Rovers fans after the game but they look fucked with Barton in charge, which is good to see :)

To save trawling through pages of comments here are the ones that mention us from the gas forum, most seem pretty positive in our favour TBH and quite fair.

Quote
Rovers threw a victory away, but swindon didnt look like a team that could score more than one goal in a game. So had the 3 points given to them.

Sorry, but I completely disagree in your assessment of Swindon. They missed several guilt-edged chances prior to equalising and thoroughly deserve their 3-1 win. The fact that it was a soft penalty and a goalkeeping blunder is neither here nor there. Swindon had enough chances and shot on goal to win handsomely anyway.

Got what we deserve. Stood off all game and created virtually nothing.

We have been 2nd best and I don't begrudge Swindon the points

We deserve that score, got exactly what we deserved.

This was a big game for Barton. Will be the icing on the cake for many who were on the fence.

1 moment of brilliant football, 80 minutes of absolute dross. Suck it up Barton, outplayed by ‘negligent Garner’

Because the ref gave them one goal and belly gave them another. Other than that Swindon are toothless upfront. Like at rovers BG did lots of passing in the middle third but nobody on the end of balls.

This performance was a total sh** show and Swindon could have scored at least 7. Wael you have made a huge mistake backing this w*nk*r the only chance o f saving this season is to get rid of him now, even that might not save our league status because this bunch of past their sell by dates are simply not good enough. We are in deep trouble.

Garner must feel on top of the world tonight and so he should, not only has he won he has stuck a big middle finger up to Rovers, Barton and I suppose us fans. It pains me to say , but he is proving his critics wrong and showing Rovers up for the mugs that we are.

Today was dire. Our best player was the keeper

Got what we deserved, I'm sorry joey it's not worked out ten games in, and a manager who only had 7 players when he joined swindle outperformed you, a man you said was negligent for our demise

A complete and total humiliation. Garner must be a very happy man tonight --- and understandably so. An absolutely shocking result. The last 45 minutes sums up our decline over the last two years. What a capitulation! At home as well.

Swindon could easily have had 4, 5 or 6. We were totally outclassed from start to finish.
They gave us a footballing lesson and it's clearly Barton who is looking imcompetent now.
This is a worse Rovers squad than the one that got relegated to the Conference in 2014.
Played off the park by Garner's Swindon at home. Surely his time is up.

Swindons midfield and defenders had all the time and space they could wish for, second half especially, they wont have an easier game all season.

We made Swindon look like Brazil. We are truly pathetic in every department

If you watch the other Swindle games this season you will notice its not a case of normally they would score those chances. Because they have not

the formation played right into Swindons hands today. Everyone knew they would play from the back and by starting with Pitman up front on his own we let them do exactly that. They've given us a lesson today, our midfield was pretty much non existant throughout.

Apart from a really well crafted goal from us, it just felt like the inevitable outcome from lots of swindle pressure.

They're number 10 Payne in the middle was what we were missing last year. When they played garnerball along the back line he was their out but instead of playing backwards or sideways all the time he'd mix it up with a pass or dribble forwards.

Usual way out was cordoned off, found a bus stop by accident but had to wait over an hour as it was next to where some Town fans had been corralled prior to being marched off to Parkway. Police described it as "controlling the situation". Indeed.
Couple of scheduled buses turned off before the hold up.
All good fun.

Looking at their forum, interesting to see the terms basket case & shambles being used and it's not aimed at us for a change.
Also the trusty "I'm not going again until <insert name> has gone."

Cheers Bob, Was there any trouble outside as I noticed the home fans were held back which they weren't happy about and fair play to the fans that walked to and from parkway station as that is also a fair way unless they laid busses on.

All the Swindon fans were let out together straight after the game. Plenty of singing and Rovers fans were behind the Police lines.
Main road was cordoned off and we turned right up the hill where the car was parked. Walking straight towards a few Rovers walking down but all decent types.
They did look miserable though.
Prefer the Gas everyday to the Shit Heads, far more grounded and less deluded than the Shit Heads.
Felt edgy but without threatening. Just how derby games should be and always enjoy playing Rovers away.

Garner likes a patient build up, we move the ball left to right, right to left trying to find pockets in the midfield areas, every now and again Dion Hoddle will try and find a wide space.
Pitman as lone striker was completely isolated and was his typical shit self. Our style and fitness levels exploited their mature team yesterday. Said at halftime confident we would win it, if we could get a goal.

The style is far more effective and pleasing on the eye away from home as we are given more room to play in. The players have been recruited to fit the style. If we could take the lead at home early first half I believe it would open up the game a little more.
Still believe we are getting better however a goalscorer would be a much needed addition in January.

Expectations- Right now way exceeding.

We left the escort and walked down a few streets to order a taxi, still took 40 mins to arrive. When the town fans caught up with us we were chanted at thinking we were rovers fans despite our best efforts to explain we were Swindon 😂😂 Brilliant day out, enjoyed the Knights Templar before the game. Didn’t even notice the rain towards the end, brilliant. Up the Town.

After the game Barton offered to walk away - no compo. Wael said he backs him and the group 100%.

Shit. They really are in trouble!

The only evidence for that is Joey Barton’s word, so I wouldn’t bank on it. His Garner comments pre-match were pitiful. Pure arrogance and opportunism laying the blame for his own failings on Garner. There’s not a more classless man in football. And that’s before we get to the domestic violence, assault charges and stubbing fags out in other people’s eyes… before he got to Rovers, I thought they had a decent manager on their hands. Now, I can’t see the attraction….

His comments towards Garner were so pitiful that you’d have to have very thin skin to be offended by them. What he said about Ben being ‘negligent’ was the most transparent attempt at transferring blame I’ve ever seen. Gas fans saw through it too, I expect the majority were physically cringing

I know its not appreciated by too many but as long as a couple of people say they like it and want me to continue then I will :)

Awful weather out there today may affect our passing based game style.

As usual I avoid the Match Day thread on the actual match day and read back after the event as I love to read how knee jerk people get during the game!

However before I do I also want to say how much of a fine job you do during the games JJ. As I am either at the game, or watching on Ifollow I don't spend any time on this thread during the game, but I used to use this thread every matchday and your updates were always a great way of knowing what was going on. So Chapeau to you JJ.

One thing that made me laugh, Pitman fell over in front of the Gas dugout wanting a freekick and then proceeded to pick the ball up thinking the ref had to give it to him. Only for the ref to blow for a free kick to Swindon.

I fucking love it when refs do that, wish they would do it more in the PL!

What's the beef with Garner, how can Barton be blaming a manager who left nearly 12 months, 2 transfer windows and 2 managers ago.

Thoroughly enjoyable game that one after a ropey first 20 minutes or so. After that it was pretty much domination and only a matter of time before we broke through. McKirdy's exuberance and energy was exactly what we needed. Yes Rovers were as bad, if not worse than Colchester but I thought we got it pretty much spot on. They were slow and plodding and we just popped it around playing very good football. As usual the final third is where we are lacking the most but we created plenty of chances and half chances and 3-1 is flattering really.

As per the MOM thread I thought Reed was the best player on the park, he always seems to have plenty of time on the ball, the sign of a quality player. Gladwin also played well and of course McKirdy off the bench was inspirational. Up to 5th in what is a very strange league with FGR and Harrogate leading the way. We need to sort out our home form to really press on this season but we look like we are setup to pick up plenty of points away from home. Next week is a challenge for the squad of course but one I am confident of taking points from.

Having Pitman on the pitch basically eliminated any chance of them pressing us properly and we were able to dictate the game on our terms. In Coutts and Whelan you also have an old midfield pairing and Reed, Gladwin and Payne were able to run the show. Rovers are in for a tough season methinks.

If you could pick the perfect team for us to play against Rovers on Saturday were it.

If I was an opposition manager I’d be playing 3 mobile and quick forward players to press our backline as it’s guaranteed we will gift chances if they do that, just like the Port Vale did.

Yeah I agree, I was impressed with Port Vale, think they did a job on us. Garner is going to have to come up with a 'plan B' for when clubs press us aggressively, that's when we seem to struggle, particularly at home. I don't watch a lot of Premier league football but I watched Brighton on Saturday and was really impressed with how they play a slick, fast possession based game which gave Arsenal huge problems. We just don't seen to move the ball anywhere near quick enough at home to look dangerous. Hopefully the longer the season goes, we start to see this bearing fruit. Having McKirdy's energy certainly helped on Saturday.

Only press Pitman can possibly be able to contribute to is sitting on apples as a cider press !
