Genuinely surprised that keeping Freckleton is even a debate. Based on what I've seen so far, he's nowhere near good enough. Solidified by the fact that Saturday was probably his best game for us & he still made 2 or 3 basic errors.

It's crazy to think that the Town board would sanction ''funds'' for a contract offer to Freckleton, yet don't seem arsed at all about developing players like McGurk. Properly developed, McGurk has the potential to go from rough diamond with natural ability, to real flair playing polished gem. Some of the best technical players look ''lazy''.
I don't think it's so much that managers don't fancy him though, I think it boils down to this club not having the proper resource to develop. If only we didn't have such a short-sighted and on-the-make board.
It will be an absolute calamity if a player like Freckleton ends up having a long term career in the bottom two pro divisions, and someone like McGurk ends up stacking shelves in Gateway part-time whilst playing a forgotten career at Ossett United

He's failed to impress Gunning, Kennedy & Holloway. He may have ability but if he's too lazy to train properly, as has been rumoured, he's not going to get into the first team.
There's been plenty of talented youngsters who utterly failed to do the work and didn't have long term careers because of it.
As it is McGurk is looking like another one for that list. It won't be here but I hope he learns to pull his head out of his arse and make good on his potential.

McGurk is in the position of having to prove himself worth a new contract while on loan at Yeovil. He wil not reortedly follow instructions, if he doesn't so that at Yeovil, then it's sayounara. Nobody has any doubt in his ability, even Leeds' supporters werre questioning why he was let go. On the other hand, Freckleton was asked by Kennedy to play out from the back requiring experience and when he made erors, Kennedy persisted in playing him wrecking his confidence. There's huge potential for both players, McGurk has to start following instructions, while Freckleton has to stop making errors.

Fair enough observation. Not sure if intentional but absolutely loving the Bananafish reference; ''Sa-yo-na-ra''

I didn't say we should offer Freckles a contract, I answered the question posed about our loan signings and pointed out that the only one really up for any sort of option was whether we would offer Freckles a perm - the others are pretty cut and dried as to the likely outcome from what we know.

Freckleton has another year at Sheffield United after this one, so it's probably immaterial.

LSPOD said he was out of contract at the end of the season, that might be inaccurate, but that was what I was basing my thoughts on..

Fair enough. I still think it's weird the way the club and 2 managers have promoted Freckles so strongly when he is not even our player, whilst not giving the same attantion to some of our own young talent. That is the reasoning for the cynical thoughts in the first place anyway.

They obviously dont rate him or they would have happily taken our offer of termination of loan offer rather than insisting he stayed here.

I agree it is weird, the 'good' reason is that he might be the kind of personality who needs to be told how great he is I suppose. But it's not helped his relationship with the fans at all - and the various voices blaming the fans for that have made things worse.

I agree, I think they are feathering the bed of the free signing in the Summer. FWIW he reminds me of Tim Parkin back under Macari, signed for us highly rated from Bristol Rovers and had an absolute stinker of a season. Often booed by many Town fans for his awful performances at CB giving away several goals and then, the next season, he was transformed and player of the season with some great performances at a higher level too.

I suppose depends on whether we are paying the wages, if we are means they haven't got to pay them for 6 months and then come the summer if he picks up here they possibly can screw someone for a fee for him or alternatively its only c.12 months wages they have to pay to get him off the books.
