I imagine it’s our board trying to be a bit cheap.
Holloway has pretty much indicated he wants to stay however he has also very clearly stated location played a big part in him coming here + his love for football. He’s played his hand.
From a stingy board POV you can try & lowball Holloway because, well where else is he going to go? If he true to his word & only wants local jobs then it’s pretty much limited to us or Bristol Rovers. I can’t see Holloway for example resigning from us to go take the Huddersfield job. Board will probably know that & offer Holloway terms that reflects the fact he’s unlikely to ditch us for another job.
I'm sure they'll do their absolute best to fuck it up. Whatever their motives or aims are, It's surely in their interests to get a deal done though....isn't it?

I’ve always been concerned with something Holloway said when he came in - that he was also here to improve the coaching staff, this set alarm bells in my head that Clem decided Gav will learn everything he needs to take over again at the end of the season when Holloway contract ends - I just help I’m very wrong or things have changed

Exactly my thoughts, Gunning hanging around is a concern

Nah. He's going to keep Ollie. Anything else is going to kill ticket sales.
As I said earlier, pretty sure it must be close if the st sales are delayed.

To be fair to Gunning. Holloway has attributed the improved defence to the work Gunning has done with the back four on the training pitch. Holloway also said Gunning should have been doing this before he came in but wasn't under Kennedy and that Bignot does a lot of the tactical prep.

I also recall one poster here having only recently picked out respect for Gav's role in organising a solid defence in a coaching role from a recent opponent's forum. Mad Gav comes across as a likeable, experienced coach needing a little direction and a very worthy member of our coaching team. When well led.
And Holloway seems to be quite a special leader, at ease with giving players and coaches credit and scope for their skills. Must keep Ollie. Can't bear the thought of starting all over again, given previous picks.

Some make good coaches but not managers, others are good at managing but aren’t necessarily great coaches.
Clough & Ferguson are prime examples, both outstanding managers, who worked much better when they had good coaches.

Same with Bob Smith, great manager when he had Wilf Tranter as assistant/coach. As soon as Wilf left then it fell to pieces.

The team we had back then could have gone all the way to the old Division 1. And they should definitely have gone up in 79/80. They fell to pieces after we were knocked out of both cups and lost a crucial top of the table, televised game, against Sheffield Wednesday all in the space of a couple of weeks. They hardly won a game from then on until the end of the season (although there were a couple of memorable ones - Rotherham, 6-2 when Andy Rowland got 4 goals and Gillingham, 3-0, and a young, permed, Steve Bruce got red-carded . They couldn't win away from home though.

Finished that season with 3 away games back in the days when the final games did not kick off at the same time on the same day.
