Austin would be perfect for a side creating a bucket load of opportunities and struggling to put them away.

We are far from that right now. Struggling to muster a shot on target most weeks.

If he comes here, people may end up incredibly disappointed.

Down to the managers tactics again!

At the risk of going full Sandro, according to @xg_data on Twitter (with a bit of adding up by me), Jephcott has a personal xG of 4.76 from the League One games he's played and has scored 5 goals, so it's not his finishing letting him down. Obviously that won't include him failing to get into positions etc. 11 appearances + 3 off the bench in that.

Fwiw, Wakeling has 5 goals from 2.99 xG and Williams 6 from 3.70.

As a whole team (all players) we have 24.85 xG and 23 league goals scored (I think we actually have 24, must have been an own goal somewhere?)

In case real nerds want the raw data (again, not mine, taken from xG_data on Twitter) it's here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1G1TzQBLEw9ndAltTKoPlnJtKsNOifWLTSe97JNTjMZI/edit?usp=sharing with pivot tables.

Wakeling is *really* overperforming

It would be interesting to see stats comparing Garner when he was in charge v Lindsey. Boring football but at least we were creating.

Well, I'd imagine that Sandro & co. have broader and better data than me twatting around on the internet, and Wakeling is one of those that passes the eye test as well as whatever you want to do in a spreadsheet, but it can't hurt.

Interesting dive into the stats. The main stat and non-subtle elephant in the room must be the lack of chances created and some of that responsibility lies with the coaching set up.

Crawley aside, Hutton has been putting a fair few crosses in per game. I'm assuming that these are totted up in the box entries stats that Lindsey likes to refer to.

Charlie would definitely be an upgrade on Jephcott in terms of attempting to get on the end of them.
Failing that, LJ's scoring return isn't bad & every effort should be made to ensure that the style of play can accommodate his strengths.

Box entries v players in the box at the time would be an interesting stat.  Hmmm

Good question!

Not listed in the official Opta definitions (couldn't post the link) but final third entry is commonly used in analysis.

I suspect that there is a degree of defense mechanism in operation when Lindsey makes mention of box entry.

I see that today's narrative (TM) is that Austin wants to return but Sandro's spreadsheets and Lindsey don't want him. There are still three weeks till the window opens and we're already into saga territory!
