Malpas is [should be] gone if we lose today.

Thought we showed some signs of recovery Tuesday night so i'm slightly hopeful we'll get a result.

In my defence I did make the most of the 18 bottles of Carlsberg for a fiver offer. And the buy one get one free on yoghurts, pasta sauces, chicken breasts, 30% extra free fabric conditioner and some half price cheddar.

Think you're right, this is not good.

I'm off to the England match this evening. I predict a dull 1-0 win for that one!

I'm going for 4-3 at 100-1

I've gone with 3-1 and Cox scoring first @75-1...

So we're either going to lose, win 2-1 with Cox scoring first, or win 3-1 with Paynter claiming he got a toe on Cox's first goal and the bookies believing him.

I've even resorted to the lucky pants today.

No sonic, don't give in! Today is (hopefully) the day we can turn around and rub it in their faces. "Haha, we won". Mind, when I say 'turn round' i mean stay facing forwards. and by 'rub it in their faces' I mean silently, in my head.

I remember going to 'Uddersfield to watch a Mcmahon team play 8 across the back. Chris Hay was up front with no support and no service from anyone, but still got lambasted by the oh so knowledgeable traveling 'faithful'.

I kinda know where you're coming from. There's an overwhelming large population of bitter cunts at CG and it just brings you down. It's almost like going to see the bundle of joy that is my Nan. All she does is talk about how hard life is, how she feels so incredibly ill all the time and talks, with a touch of impatience, about her glorious wait for the nirvana of death. I hardly see her anymore because it pisses me off so much, and i've been leaving the CG early such is my hatred of booing.

I have happier memories of our game at the County Ground 12 years ago this week.  6-0, including a Peter Thorne hattrick, with all 6 goals coming in 20 minutes of play either side of half time.

I'd settle for 1-0 today, mind.

I think that if we do let a 2nd in then the chants will start.

Lets face it MM is in a no win situation at the moment, if we get beat he will be the scapegoat (possibly rightly so) but if we come back and win it will be creditted to the players.

5 home defeats in a row.
9 home games without winning in a row.

October 1999 to March 2000

We lost our first 5 home games of 2000, to QPR (0-1), Palace (2-4), Grimsby (0-1), Birmingham (1-4) and Crewe (0-1).  As it happens, the losing streak was broken on March 7th 2000 with a 2-0 win at home...to Huddersfield.

Malpas won't walk and fitton will probably continue to back him.

Huddersfield had only lost one league game away this season and had drawn away at Oldham.  Their home form is not good though.  Looking at the upcoming fixtures we are in deep trouble.

There's no excuses for 4 straight home defeats including three 3-1 losses, defence is terrible, haven't kept a clean sheet for 6 months, malpas has had time to turn it around, time to go now maurice.

the result was inveitable after conceding early, as will thousands of posts that say exactly the same thing on here tonight.

i think it's obvious malpas must go so why is everyone saying the same thing over and over again?

we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. not taking our chances. we have a very fragile defense at the moment. Both Smith and Brez have no confidence at all. Also Ian Holloway was in the townend today sat infront of me and my dad.

Just got back (early as you can see)
It was fucking awful, mirror image of the last bunch of home defeats, absolute disgrace. Fans were shouting at eachother in the DRS, about 3/4 of fans sung Malpas Out after the second goal. I can't believe how shit we were again. I've tried to back Malpas for too long now and now I give up. He's shit. We had no width at all until Macca came on.

Only real positive was Morrison. He was the only one who cared, has a wicked long throw and didn't make too many mistakes.

But it was so fecking easy for them. They only had to hoof it, and we were on the back foot. Ifil was poor first half, Amankwaah was absolute Gash. Brezovan had 0 confidence. But the pen miss from Cox changed it all, they scored straight after, and Im left wondering what might of been had Cox scored.  But Malpas is shit, I've had enough with that tosser.

M.M.: Got to work harder, individual mistakes, nothing else that can be done.  Ed trying to explain what to do.  Giving goals way too cheaply. Ed explaining nothing sticking from training ground.  M.M believes in the players and what he is doing.  M.M. understands the frustration, team is going the right away.  No problem with the fans.

Nick Holmes had the right idea ripped the entire team in the center circle after losing against 10 men, could be heard from the stands.

Highlight of the day was tellin some squeeky voiced prick a couple of rows infront of me, to shut the fuck up....I swear all he comes to the games for is to chant Malpas out/Boo the players, and this was right from the off! We don't need fans like that.

looked like rabbits in the headlights today.where do you start with that performance.
players going at each other.ifil having the most of the ball with no options ruined his game.he'd win it and then lose it as no midfielder came to collect it.the full backs were fucking dire today(i mean really dire)wankwaa is a joke.
felt sorry for our centre backs as they got fuck all protection from them.shocking distribution from brez all match.
our midfield were piss poor and offered fuck all.timlin shoots from everywhere but didn't hit the target once.nalis has nice touches but is too slow and it shows.easton is a shadow of the player he was.peacock was ok but lacks quality.
two plusses and they are the only two.morrison and cox. if were them i'd be banging on at my agent to get a move.
the team looked nervous and lacked invention.shaky as fuck at the back and could have been more with a bit more composure from huddersfield.
two of their goals were suberb strikes, so fair play to them.
flat crowd and a 3rd full townend is the reason.the season ticket price in there was a major fuck up and it's showing badly now.

Smith
Nalis
Easton
Mcmanee

Can't disagree with that. How he is a defender without being able to tackle is beyond me.

And Paynter, even if you have a point concentrate on your own game rather than bollocking our own players. That way you won't look such a prick when you play shit in the second half.

How can the same shit keep happening at home, yet away we are OK? Something is broken and needs fixing. Its hard to defend the managers position right now.

MALPAS OUT!! No doubt fitton won't sack him though!!

Will fitton sack him though? it didn't sound like he would sack him anytime soon when he spoke recently.

Malpas won't walk and fitton will probably continue to back him.

How long before fitton sacks him? now, next week or will he give him another 2 or 3 games to tun it around? although i think that would be pointless.

And that's just the last few pages. You did the same thing few weeks ago, and you haven't posted inbetween.

You seem to be obsessed with Fitton not sacking Malpas. Do you think Fitton is going to read this and think "oh, that oneandrewfitton doesn't think that I'll sack Malpas. I'll show him". Or do you have some sort of agenda of linking Fitton with an unpopular Malpas. I'm not sure.

I left today with five minutes to go, first time ever I think.
The worrying thing is Huddersfield are nothng special, the game turned on that penalty kick. Cant blame Cox it was not that bad a penalty.
Second and third goal brilliantly taken, even three down we had great chances from Peacock and Corr who both headed wide from four yards, and if you remember rightly a couple of great saves from the Udders keeper before we got the penalty.

I feel totally deflated, will probably not turn up again until Malpas has gone the man is totally clueless, when Brez injured one of their players did you watch Malpas, he turned his back on the players who came over to the dugout for instructions and then sat down, then when play started again just put his arms on the roof of the dugout motionless, he knows his fate it must come this weekend.

He is total and utter wanker, get rid of this Scottish twat.

I still don't think Malpas is going anywhere anytime soon. That is unless Fitton has a radical change of heart obviously.

Fitton has spoken to the press just once and this was to say that he was going nowhere and the quotes were structered as if it wasn't a vote of confidence.

Maybe the more the fans huff and puff then perhaps Malpas will be forced out.

But until then... Fun, fun, fun :(

So cut the abuse.  By all means, criticise his managerial decisions and his inability to get a result at home.  But moderate your language.  For anyone who knows their football, Maurice Malpas is a stalwart, a household name.  What the fuck gives a man on the street like you (or anyone else) the right to call him a wanker?  You've gone over the top.  The man has 55 Scotland caps.  What have you done?  Tell us, please.  And then, if you must, call him a wanker.

All I know is I got a text during the match saying that the Town End were chanting Ian Holloway's name! Crazy days.

It was supposed to be a rhetorical question, just emphasising the fact we could end up with someone out just as bad

My apologies... I just don't know what's going on. Perhaps a bit of clarity from the football club. Malpas won't resign, why would he want to? It's either Fitton or the fans that will get rid of him. These are tough times - but they've been/felt much, much worse.

That maybe true but he might know players that are available on loan to come in and do a job on a short term basis similar to allen at cheltenham anyway it would one player more then malpas has got in.

Maybe Holloway is being lined up to be our next manager? Then again i just cannot see fitton sacking malpas, he seems too soft on the guy and seems prepared to give him more time and more time.

funny, didnt see you about last week

today was just meh, only way I can describe it.

Chanting Holloways name, whats the fucking point.

Although something has to change. We look like a side who have already throw the towel in. We better fucking win League Two this time.

Exactly it's embarressing - chanting against our manager in one thing but chanting the name of someone on the basis of a rumour and that he's an unemployed localish manager is a bit silly.

they could easily have bagged 5, they missed some real easy chances!!

I thought Malpas sounded really deflated at first on the radio, then got more defiant as the interview went on. It wasnt quite Bob Holt-esque (hilarious btw) but he seemed to really believe that there is no problem. All very Andy King in my opinion. He did fall short of branding us fans as morons though, which was nice.

Holloway turns up at the matchday ticket office at about 2.55pm and says something along the lines of "Where should i sit?"

He gets the reply "where do you want to sit?"

"Well, erm, I used to be a football manager, and now I do a bit of press work and well, i might get a bit of stick. Where can i sit where i won't get any stick?"

So we sold him a ticket for the Town End. Mainly because that was the window he went to, and we didn't have any other tickets nearby.

Did anyone give him any stick? (or offer him a job?!)

Can't really be bothered to talk about the match it was utter shit, rather than being angry though I just found myself laughing as at times we were so bad it was actually really funny........we can't even do the basics kids in a playground are more organised, passionate than us. I couldn't be bothered to shout, boo or anything as I found myself not really caring tbh and that seemed the general feeling around me.

It's gone on long enough and Malpas along with the entire 1st team coaching set-up needs to go before it's too late. What really annoys me is people saying put Byrne and Williams in charge we did  well under them IMO thats all bollocks. They are part of the current coaching set-up and equally as responsible as Malpas and the rest............when they were in charge last time the team were a united front due to the off field turmoil, not because of Byrne & Williams and there was some shit performances mixed in aswell. If those 2 got the job we'd be equally as bad as we are now ................ Freshening up the whole set-up is all I can see working.

Peacock the same only four yards out and headed wide.

It would be quite ironic if Holloway did take over (as well as being quite good) That would mean that our manager would be a life-long Rovers fan and Rovers' manager would be a life-long Town fan.

And I do know for a fact that Trollop is a Town fan through and through.

Less of me wanting, more someone the fans will take to because of his surname without him having a legend status to ruin. Also he's improved Rovers every year.

Probably a more likely or rather realistic shout than Billy Davies. He's been out the game for a year now and I'd like to know why.

Is he waiting for a decent job to come up or would he accept anything?

Holloway was never at the game total rubbish. Unless someone proves me wrong.
I can't prove it one way or another, but we went and got tickets for the Wovers game after the match today and chatting to the ticket office staff, they were adamant that Holloway and Paul Jewell were both there. Now I'm pretty damn sure Jewell wasn't there for the manager's job as he seems to be turning things round at Derby, and even if Holloway was, it doesn't mean he's being lined up for the manager's job either - it's fairly common for out of work managers to get to as many games as they can to keep their hand in. To take two random examples, heard both Martin Allen and Mike Newell on the radio recently (before their recent reappointments natch) saying they'd been doing just that

Oh and we were shit today, obviously. Cox and Morrison put the effort in, as did Peacock second half (although as someone else said somewhere, it was a bit late). Amankwaah should be charged with pitch invasion and banned from all grounds for a year - the law says you're only allowed on the playing surface if you're a football player, a match official or medical staff. He was none of the above

Just got in and decided to log on and read todays rants and or raves.
I cannot believe for the life of me that there are people on here defending the manager and the shit that we have been dished up today.
Are you fucking blind???
Facts:
Leeds: Good team made to look worldclass.
Colchester: Mediocre team made to look good.
Millwall: Please see above
Hudds: Poor side made to look good.
PS - Hereford away - Shit team who we will be sharing a league position with soon.
Today was shit, shit , shit and i am sad to say boys and girls that most people stood around me in the Town End were half expecting it.....and i reckon half the ground....even our confidence has gone.
If somebody else doesnt come in soon then we are royally fucked and back to playing that shit in divvy 2 again...........enough is enough.
Sorry Maurice, thanks but no thanks. No personal attacks, i dont think you are a wanker or a cxxt and the fact that you are scottish doesnt bother me at all....you are just not the man for the job and if you need proof look at the whole of this season so far.
No more chances............its over. :suicide:
NB - The 'Are you watching Holloway?' chant was a piss take of a chap in the Townend who was telling everyone about chatting to him before kickoff......

I thought I should at least log in having been able to go and say yes, the ref was pretty good actually.

I don't know about that tedious cliche of whether Malpas has lost the dressing room - I saw nothing wrong with the players effort at one-nil down and but the second (especially the timing) just screwed with their heads more than anything else.

It was fairly obvious that there is something structurally wrong with the side but I couldn't really say what from sitting in the Town End. However, as I was driving back Alan McLoughln did a superbly concise butchering of the tactics in about two minutes that was just the best listen in some ways and pretty alarming in others.

While we all also know that the post match interview with the manager is also a bit of a dance around in that the manager can't criticise individual players openly etc it was pretty lame of Malpas to offer nothing more than cutting out individual errors and working harder as ways to improve.

It's just so frustrating as when I go to home games (not often as I am usually working on Saturdays) the feel around the place in terms of the look of the ground, the whole sense of professionalism round the place, the way the club seems to be run is just SOOO much better than a year ago. I so want the manager the new board put in place to work and I won't call for his head during games.

But when he goes (and surely it is when now) it will be met with sorrowful relief here.

I don't think even the appointment of a tap dancing manatee as defensive coach would convince me he has any sort of future.

I cannot believe for the life of me that there are people on here defending the manager and the shit that we have been dished up today.
I don't think there is, is there? Genuine question. I haven't read thru all the threads as it'd be the equivalent of playing the combined output of Leonard Cohen, Morrissey and Joy Division back to back, but from what I have seen I don't think anyone has attempted to defend the manager or described the game/performance today as anything other than complete shit.

See Paul, I don't know that it was complete shit. Defence was not good at all, and as others have no doubt said certain players went missing in the first half. I will give Huddersfield their first goal, but up until the second it was all Swindon and if the penalty goes in it is a different game. The third goal was a bit of a strike and not much you can do about it.

I don't think they are any better than us but they have won 3-1 and we can't complain about that. You can take a defeat like that as a bad day every once in a while but on the back of other defeats and other poor performances it is just a bit too much to take now. When are the good days going to come?

i've defended malpas in the past and although i didn't go today, it was all horribly inveitable. i knew it before kick-off, i knew it when i woke up this morning.

it was ten games into the season we sacked king in 2005 who had amassed a total of 7 points...we're slightly better off right now and i think the time is right. it'd just be delaying the inveitable.

on the plus side, we've got some decent players if we can find someone capable of getting the team to gel as a unit, particularly a defensive unit.

I'd agree with that. The squad we've got now is so much better than in 05/06, which makes the underacheivment even worse

Well done ref, as has been said before, didnt see him make a bad decision.

Just cant believe that this is how its all turned out. Im utterly speachless.

Just makes me laugh now, what a carry on. All them chavy teenagers in the Town End were right, and super millionaire businessman Andrew Fitton was wrong. Funny old world.

Well, I hope that you all backed a 1-3 defeat as I stated you all should in another thread, third home game I have been to and the third 1-3 scoreline!

My thoughts on the game, clearly our confidence is at rock bottom at the moment, our defence seemed to shit themselves every time Huddersfield attacked! They scored from a set piece where we were daydreaming, took a short corner, 1-0. We then had a few corners but you just knew that we are never going to score from a corner, although we had 2 or 3 dangerous corners in a row and then decided to take a short corner and fuck up royally to lose momentum. Cox's penalty wasn't great, but it was hit quite hard and you have to credit the keeper for the save. From that, a long punt up the pitch, our defence are clearly expecting Cox to score his pen and fall asleep and the boy finishes well.

Second half I think we looked much more dangerous when McNamee came on. Someone on here earlier in the thread said he was shite, he was on for 25 minutes and created most of our chances and gave us a bit or width. I personally think we tried to play through the middle more and our midfield were hopeless and left us badly exposed and Huddersfield could have added more.

Clearly at 0-3 we were bound to create some chances and Corr and Peacock should have scored to at least give us a squeak of a chance.

In summary - Something isn't right, our defence is hopeless, Ifil really frustrates me, one minute he looks like a clown, the next he is coolly turning a striker with some class defending. Our midfield doesn't work at the moment, playing effectively 4 defensive midfielders at home is pretty feeble.

A few people around me started cheering and clapping when Huddersfield scored their third which was pathetic, people are entitled to their opinions but jesus wept these people probably sing 'Swindon till I die' as well. Also, the atmosphere at the County Ground is so crap, we have no songs for Cox or Mcnamee but we have a song for a striker who hasn't played since about 1983, surely we could adopt the Sammy Parkin song for Coxy, this guy gives 100% every game and we give him no recognition. He is probably buggering off in January but lets give the guy some credit.

I spend a fortune to travel to Swindon matches, at the moment I still enjoy the buzz of the saturday afternoon, but I am not going to the Oldham game now so we are bound to win! Next game is Huddersfield away, lets hope something has changed by then.

Did anyone else see Ifil and Paynter having a massive barney at each other towards the end of the first half?

I saw it, I think Paynter was being a bit of a prick tbh he started having a go at Ifil for something and ended up whacking Ifil in the stomach.....Ifil obviously reacted a bit and Nalis had to seperate them. Obviously team spirit is really high would almost suggest a split dressing room which is the worst thing that could happen.

I don't think so. It at least shows some spirit, rather that than meekly accepting "Oh, well, we're getting turned over by a poor side again"

Also Smith & Amankwahh didn't shake Malpas' hand, not looking good..

So fans are allowed to shout anything to him and as soon as he gives a bit back, people are enraged.  Mob mentality rocks.

I bet the "fan" was living up to Malpas' diagnosis, the fucking arsehole!

Come on DRS it's obvious what the general theme of comment towards MM was on Saturday.  I'm quite confident the geezer wasn't trying to exchange pleasantries.  A lot of the arkells fans of late have been tossers.

Exactly, no need.

If Malpas is a good coach, then great, lets keep him.

But hes no leader. On the non football bit, theres a link to Warnock in the dressing room Shrewsbury Huddersfield, 1995. Hes just got that presence over the players to inspire and command.

But come on Fitton, please make some changes, we are rudderless.

In any disagreement the general rule is not to get personal.....i had a manager a few years back who tried to bully me at work..... i never bit and followed a set complaints procedure.

All was going ok.....then he got personal during a meeting and said unsavoury suggestions about my marriage breakup and my daughter.........i held the cxxt up by his throat til he apologised.

If I saw Malpas i would simply tell him that i didnt think he was doing a good job and follow it up with 400 different reasons....but...i wouldnt get personal,,,,thats just wrong.

I know exactly what i heard Malpas calling a fan an arsehole. The fan wasn't swearing or calling him any imature names or owt, he was just stating that he has got no clue how to be a manager what so ever and that he should go.
If you're a manager, you really can't be calling fans names like that.

I really don't get all this doom and gloom. Maurice is clearly correct, we are going in the right direction. TEFers, things are getting better.

1. Applause was ringing around the CG.  OK it was for that poor kiddie before the game, but it showed that we can still do it - that feel good factor is very, very nearly back.
2. Super Mo's made us laugh again by picking those defenders:  Amankwaah - Ifil - Morrison - Smith.  And then making them play blindfold.  Brilliant, but even the best jokes wear thin - what will he come up with next?  Who said football was dull?
3. The pre-match huddle.  Compared to our poor effort against Millwall this was blinding: togetherness, purpose and passion.  Proof that those who say they do nothing on the training ground all week are so wrong - you think that comes together by chance?
4.  The weather again.  Another glorious day at the temple.  Remember, it was just a year or two ago that Luggy whinged and moaned every week about the wind ruining the spectacle.  It shows Mozzer knows his priorities, and clearly has the Big Man upstairs in his pocket.
5. We only conceded one goal from a corner, one from a hopeful through ball and one from a random counter attack.  Other than that, and one or two close shaves, we completely and utterly kept our widely tipped for promotion opponents at bay.
6. The increasing patience of some of our more challenging followers.  Well done chaps.  I barely noticed any "we want Malpas out" chants until we were two down, and even these meek protests were quickly hushed by the librarians.  I confidently predict we'll be four down next time round before there's even an "ahem, anyone remember St Andrews?".
7. My ticket was just four numbers out from winning the HT draw.  I've not been that close when we've had so called superior managers.  I'm sure it would be my day if only the golden hand of MM himself could draw the ticket.....next time?
8. It took eleven whole men to eventually defeat our mighty heroes.  Not ten.  Eleven!  I can't remember the last time I was able to say that.

Of course, I could go on, but I have work to do.  I've heard whispers from connections that some doomers in the big town have concerns about a 'credit crunch'. Pah.
