Copper coins...when are we finally going to bite the bullet and get rid of them? They're an irritation. And losing them will not lead to rampant inflation, because any opportunistic rounding up will be more than offset by discounters cutting prices from £9.99 to £9.95. The time has come.
There's no data for the UK, but in the US the copper pennies actually cost more than one cent to produce too. So they are more expensive than they're actually 'worth.'

Presumably, you'll only be able to buy petrol in 5p increments

The decimal 1/2 went in 83. Nobody cared much, however back then the issue of a cashless society wasn't being considered...it is now.
Whereas some wouldn't be bothered others will....cash is liberating, cashless ties you completely in to the banking system and the 2008 crash showed this is not a good place to be.
Cashless make sit easy for knowledge of your money and how you spend it or otherwise to be easily available. The banks now expect to be bailed out by the tax payer, or in other cases will just use your deposits, or set negative interest rates. For this reason increasingly people are hoarding cash.

If the government (any colour rosette) ceases to issue a 1p & 2p coin making pricing of goods in increments of 5p it will lead to a rise in inflation. That’s why it’s not been done. At some point it’ll be done but not yet.

Well you wouldn't end up doing that any more, as you'd put a little extra in to get to your £40.05 Or you'd sacrifice the 4p and realise in the grand scheme of things, the <35ml of fuel you could have bought with it is fuck all.

Or the pump would just go up in 5p increments.

As above, there would be also be deflation to counter the inflation. You're only looking at one side of the coin (if you'll pardon the pun).

I was with you until this bit. Doesn't 1 half with bacon + one half with sausage = 1 whole bacon + sausage when he puts it together?

No so when its put together you have 1 slice of bread. On 1 half of this slice is 2 slices of bacon, the other half was 2 sausages. He put another slice of bread (buttered) on top and cut it in half. I was left with 1 half just bacon and the other hald just sausage. Its common sense when making any sandwich no? You layer the fillings!!!
