Well, he won't need a scouting network here.

I think we're mainly agreed on the reservations about Holloway.

However he is experienced, he is west country, he is positive and he is, for oldies like me at least, a galvaniser.

Let's hope he can carry it off with the younger generation who actually play for us and lift the day to day ambiance around the club.  I found the spirit on the pitch on Saturday and the response of the crowd an encouraging sign.  Critical was converting that spirit into a point rather than a dogged near miss.  He'll need a little bit of luck and then, who knows, what this squad and an encouraged matchday following might be capable of?

I liked the suggestion that the one year contract might imply the owners, whoever they are, might not want to tie the hands of a new owner.  Equally, if the Holloway gamble does not gain us traction, we are likely to need more than Gav to return to "save" our EFL status.  Interesting times.

My concern over the IH appointment - as I expect others, is he has not been involved anywhere for 4 years and the last club he was involved with he jumped ship before the went down, but he also encouraged dodgy ownership.
His appointment wasn't as he was the best candidate, I'm sure it was his new agent speaking to the club tell them he wanted the a job and Clem & Russell deciding he was a 'name' and he cant do any worse so give him a go - and he would be cheap.

He's a dinosaur clearly not up with current techniques, sports science, data, stats

IH isn't a coach clearly a manager and get's his coaches to do what he wants on the training ground, already heard Gav Gunning blowing smoke up Holloway's ar$e in his post match interview

Russell again get's away with no real criticism of him, despite having a heavy hand in all the manager appointments under Clem, he recruit's players, dictates on style, recruited for one formation

Coaches stay the same - the coaching staff stay the same, the same staff that failed alongside Kennedy.

I really do hope that IH can keep us away from relegation, I'll give him until January to see some improvement - and don't expect to see wholesale changes in the playing squad.

I do feel though that IH will take the vision & criticism away from Clem if he get's a couple of wins - and we move back to square one.

Gives me a straw to clutch for I guess.

I give him till the end of January. There’s still no money. Even if he manages to hang on in there.

It has got similar vibes to the Sheridactyl appointment by Power - who was looking to shift the club.

From the outside STFC probably looks a decent investment for any prospective new owner. Once that facade has been broached, though, it must look a right horror show.

Sheridan has negative vibes from day one. At best it seemed Power was helping out a mate after Sheridan had done the Waterford job a year or two before.

There were lots of strange goings on that season which felt like sabotaging the club. Remember how the pitch was covered in sand and unplayable after years of being the best in the league.

Sheridan wanting to walk away at Easter  and Power told him to stay. There was still a chance of staying up and Sheridan knew he couldn't do it but hung around until a couple of weeks from the season end.

Most of us have the reservations, but got to let him have a go and see. Not that anyone suggested otherwise.

I liked the suggestion that the one year contract might imply the owners, whoever they are, might not want to tie the hands of a new owner.

2 reasons:

1) the club having gone through a lot of managers probably don’t want to give out a long contract in case it fails again.
2) Holloway at 61 as a successful manager doesn’t need the job security + he’s seeing how it goes

This is also a bit of a fantasy too because any new owner (not that there will be) will A want to keep him if he is successful or B sack him if he isn’t… and frankly when did contract length in our recent history stop a manager being sacked.

Finally, our owners probably don’t think that far ahead.

Can’t compare Sheridan and Holloway. Sheridan was a journeyman lower league manager. Holloway has achieved at the highest level.

They’re comparable, as managers with us, as both being at the fag end of their careers and neither has achieved much for quite a while.

Can’t disagree with that, however, everyone is enthusiastic or bloody should be when they start a new job. Once they’ve got their plates under the table the veneer soon wears off. Acid test will be January. In terms of where we are, what he need and of course what he gets. Holloway is going to have to pull in some favours I think in the recruitment arena or he’ll get what he’s given.
