Best I can realistically hope for is keeping us up and retaining our football league status.

Another year of purgatory.

Isn’t it heart warming to have such high aspirations. So much to look forward to. European football is but four years away. I am saving my hard earned pennies in anticipation of booking flights and hotels in all these far flung cities across the channel.

As I understand it, Flynn is discussing the vacant Cheltenham job with their CEO. If he gets it, he wants Charlie there for one last year.

At the last game of the season, GG didn’t name Charlie in the match day squad. Someone called Clem in Aus and told him. He was immediately on the phone to GG and told him that not only would he be in the squad, he WILL be playing from the start

He threatened to fire GG immediately after the game if this didn’t happen.

Meanwhile, Charlie has known of the new Manager appointment for a few days.

Not disputing this, but Morfuni was in the UK for the last game wasnt he? How early did they announce the matchday squad?

Just reading this from Russell in the Adver:

Another attribute Mark will bring is a passion for being at Swindon Town, and delivering the huge potential we all know this club has and we're confident he can lead us in guiding the club to this level.

"This appointment will generate excitement and interest among fans as Mark will show through his dedication to supporting fan engagement across the club and we are delighted he has agreed to join us here ahead of the new season and look forward to seeing what he'll bring to our first-team footballing department too.

Is he a little deluded and blinkered to what has gone on ?

How will it generate excitement if the fans are calling for change off the pitch ?

The quote about seeing what he can bring to our first tram football dept sounds very much like they dont know what he can bring to the club but hope he can bring something

I think we'd be expecting a bit much for him to know much about the context of the club (or at least, say much about the context of the club) beyond what he's been told by the hierarchy at this point. Actions will speak louder than words.

I think i would label it as considered answers to questions. Gunning has not been forced upon him as a number 2, which is a huge positive. So its not disimilar to every other Head Coach who has had him around and then judged him as necessary. Lets see if it lasts.

Is it harsh to say I didn’t take too much promising from that press conference?

That’s not saying I’m writing Kennedy off, he’s only been in the door today and I’m very much in the “let’s see how it goes” camp. But overall I was expecting something a bit more from that press conference in terms of our direction and ambition to push on and some statements of intent, I guess that’s falling more on Russell (admittedly that’s probably my fault for expecting that).

Russell being asked about the interview process and some tasks they gave the interviewed candidates and his answer focusing on the academy the whole time was a strange choice. The academy and young player pathway is vitally important of course but means fairly little in fans minds if we’re finishing 14th every year. I’d rather hear a rallying cry about how we chose a manager that gave us the best confidence of success on the pitch and in the league rather than the best option to incorporate our younger players.

Ah well, don’t want to be too harsh, but took a strange feeling from that none the less.

Perfection is not attainable

He is hardly going to say "I got the job because I am already on the books of a certain football agent" "Clem is not backing the team and wont fund any new signings" is he?

Its a standard opening interview for any new manager, he wont say "fucking hell this is a shit club" it can all be taken currently with a huge pinch of salt.

He is in a no win situation, whatever he says will be wrong for half the Town fans (myself included) but if anybody expected anything more from a 1st press conference then they are somewhat missguided.

Gav being still involved is total proof that this is not a serious appointment.

What manager of any substance would want his predecessor involved in the coaching staff? Just invites potential undermining, not to mention his awful record in the job.

I don't like Gav. I don't want him here.

However as a new manager i think its fair to take the offer of him as a coach as long as there is no obligation for him to remain involved. Kennedy then judges him on his own merits. I would like to think sometime down the line Kennedy and his no2 work Gunning out and we see a change.
