I think we will see a fair few of the youth players go out on loan in the first month or 2 of the season.

We have a good crop of youth team players and they could do with game time against older players in competitive leagues.

Interesting Moonraker article yesterday. The only player we are really keen to secure is a Left Winger than can operate at wing back, no other roles seem urgent for now.
With Munroe and Kirkman being in the squad it wouldn't be my first thought. We have a lot of versatile players but they can only play in one place at once so can't help thinking we will be short in either CB or CM. Got to be after ST to back Smith up.

Kirkman seems to be thought of as much as a left centre back as the wing back. Which again makes Delaney look like he'd depart if they could find somewhere - Moonraker again says he'd prefer to go north but nothing on the table yet.

Of the contracted players not out on loan, you're missing those three plus McCormick, Alston, Gonzalez-Birchall and Brown.

The mythical "small squad of 24" does seem predicated on just not counting a bunch of players who have contracts. It's a similar squad to the last few years really size wise. More "proper" pros than usual if anything.

Midfield looks a bit thin for my liking

Id expect majority of the youth lads out on loan. I think we might see who possibly goes down injured early and use a loan to fill that spot and that will be part of the 24 if that is still the number hes aiming for. If they are still looking at Westley id anticipate it isnt just a LW/LWB they are looking for!

Especially when Ball and Clarke are more likely to be playing defence this season.

I think we need to include Nichols as a midfielder though.

The club website has him in the midfielders section

Nichols is Marmite....I never saw one game that he impressed me...my mate agreed BUT many are delighted with his play. Hope he has a good season anyway.

I must admit it took me a while to appreciate his play, hes a link up player that brings others into the game.

His last few games before the injury when he played more "in the hole" a lot deeper he really impressed me with his vision and passing, as an out and out striker I dont think hes good enough though.

I have high hopes for this season if he stays fit I think he will turn into a good creator for us.

He was very impressive when he played deeper next to Kilkenny.

We're going to end up with Smith CB, Nichols CM and Bodin LWB as part of Holloway's drive for a 10 striker team.

I think Holloway will call it "Flexibility".
