Holloway wants 24 senior pros, I make it that we have 14 which are signed on.....some work to do. The  young lads are outside if the 24. Evans, Hart, Brown etc

No keepers

Defenders;- Sobowale, Delaney, Wright, Minturn, McGregor, Kirkman.

Midfielders:- Clarke, Kilkenny, Butterworth, Nichols, Ball, Oldaker.

Strikers:- Glatzel, Smith.

Awaiting news on....Ripley, Bycroft, Drinan, Ofobroh, Ameen

I don't think I've missed anyone out....

Ameen has had 3rd scholarship year triggered, so he's here regardless no? unless there's a clause where a big fish can take him for some sort of compensation fee?

Don't really understand how it works.

Comment on Ball from the AFC Wimbledon fan page on FB.

Swindon gaffer Ian "Ollie" Holloway has every right to be chuffed to bits with his signing of James Ball on a 2 year deal. Put him in midfield, put him in central defence, even put him up top for a bit of nuisance value when required Big Ollie. Our James won't let you down for effort, endeavour & attitude. All The Best to The Mighty Bally on his new footballing adventure from All of Us.

Desperately need a pacy winger and a Payne-type of midfielder. Certainly what we lacked last season.

I agree with Pacy winger. Don't think we are playing with a number 10 in 3-4-3 but need creativity and goals from whatever is either side of Harry Smith!

I think Oldaker and Kilkenny will start but good to have the cover in both areas. Needed the size as well. Not sure why the second towel was put out.....

Defo looked like it was suggesting there was another signing incoming… see another one today maybe?

Would be nice to have another option in there for when things aren't working

"The Moonraker understands Holloway wants a thinned-out first-team squad of 24 for the new season – with that 24 not including second-year professionals Redman Evans, Sonny Hart and Jaxon Brown, who may well be sent out on loan into the National League."

Useful for understanding our squad make up. If we're not including the third year academy lads (assuming Ameen leaves) or Evans, Hart and Brown then we're currently at 20, or 18 if Bycroft and Ofoborh leave, but Drinan and Ripley stay, which seems to be the rumour.

Again, Dylan Mitchell is a bit of a mystery case. Maybe 17 if we're not including him.

That would mean a first team squad of something like:

GK (2): Ripley + 1 signing
DF (8): Sobowale, Delaney, Wright, Minturn, Kirkman, McGregor + 2 signings (3 if Sobowale goes)
MF (9): Clarke, Kilkenny, Butterworth, Nichols, Oldaker, Ball, Mitchell + 2 signings
FW (5): Smith, Glatzel, Drinan + 2 signings

Assume some of the extra 7 would be loans, but that looks about right.

Didn't he want something like 4 Young, 8 Emerging, 8 Prime, 4 Experienced. Or have I just made that up? I can't find the article but im sure I read something on it.

I think it's best to think of Mitchell as another of the 2nd year pros. He may have come from Villa rather than through our academy but that's still the age group he's in.

He played a decent amount of games for Hereford I believe so unless he does a Kirkman and smashes Holloway's running test a NL loan makes a lot of sense.

Age Profile wise we have: (as of August)

16-21: Evans, Minturn, Hart, Kirkman, McGregor, McCormick, Brown, Mitchell, Alston, Gonzalez, Ameen
22-25: Bycroft, Ofoborh, Kilkenny, Glatzel, Butterworth
26-30: Sobowale, Delaney, Wright, Oldaker, Ball, Drinan
31+: Ripley, Clarke, Nichols, Smith

I guess you could put the 21 year olds (Minturn, Kirkman) into a 21-25 bracket and then that looks about right really, assuming most of the first group get loaned out.

Useful to have both Clarke and Ball who seem to be adept in both a CM or CB position.

For what it's worth (which isn't much) my gut tells me that Ripley, Ofobohr won't sign.  Bycroft will wait to see what Ripley does, and Ameen will get sold for a nominal fee.

Whether Bycroft becomes our No.1 depends on how much wiggle room Ollie has in the budget after his priorities as I think he would prefer another more experienced GK, but we could end up with Bycroft or another loan if that budget runs out, which it probably will.

Like i say, just my gut, not ITK.

One thing is for sure,we are desperate for some pace at the top end of the pitch.

Be interesting to see if Ollie addresses it.
