So...following on from the 'grand unveiling' of Don Rogers' statue, what do people think of it? (apologies if posted elsewhere but I couldn't see anything)... Looking at it in isolation and not being an expert in sculpture, it looked reasonably OK... possibly better than I'd expected... Any other views?

I think it looks great personally.

I think it’s great. I love that it’s remembering a moment in the 69 league cup - representing all the whole team really.

I think it's class.

Much as I respect Wimbledon, and them celebrating their history, I didn't much like theirs.

I don’t think it was even them? Pretty sure it was all commissioned etc by the Trust.

Yep, this was a Trust project from a few years ago.  The club sorted out the gravel though.

The statue in isolation looks decent, obviously very little involvement from the club and it shows.

‘Statue Park’ however is a shit show and unveiling in an area that’s surface is a combination of builders gravel and sharp sand is just embarrassing. Surely it wouldn’t have been hard to make the area look finished, why does it have to be done in phases?! Although I think we all know the next phase will never materialise and this will be what we are left with.

I found the occasion itself, of the unveiling, quite moving. Different generations gathered; winter sunlight on the grey-haired Don, John and Joe; a shared, collective experience where opportunity was readily given for photographs of fans with the players of yore in front of the statue ... it had an elegiac quality.
But also very much in the present: youthful STFC players in their kit and a final message over the mic: "Hope to see you at the County Ground and here's hoping for three points tomorrow." It was a reminder of a world we have lost but also a need for optimism.
As in football, as in life ...

I will have a look at the surface today - shoddy of the club if not done properly . I will check against the plans submitted to the council- if it’s not the correct gravel I will report to the councils enforcement team.

Our chief exec needs to realise you can’t Penny pinch and bodge things when 10,000 + people are watching you.

Suspect cash flow is super tight. But that is not a controversial view.

He is super useless. But probably has hands tied behind back
