To be honest, I would have gone to a shop at the airport and ask if I could email the tickets to them for them to print. Done it many times at the hotel abroad for boarding passes on the return leg.

I refuse to use them. Amazes me how many people will book flights and hotels seperately and be shocked when they have a hotel booking with no flights

I've used them quite a bit over the years, don't think I've had many issues. Baggage seems to be the only one I remember.

Every Ryanair flight I've been on recently has been App based boarding passes only, so printed ones must be the back up to that? Seems like the story probably is missing them refusing to use the app/not having a suitable phone, which is an issue for many older folks but fundamentally the whole Ryanair experience is designed to not deal with the more complex cases. They are the only option on quite a few routes now though, so it isn't quite as simple as "just book BA".

For me it is more to do with when they cancel and refuse to pay. During the pandemic for example they would fly an empty flight to locations and refuse to pay non travellers who couldn't go as they were positive for example and say well the flight travelled

Ahh, the pandemic.
Had a return flight to Copenhagen booked.
Ryanair were fine with eventually extracting a refund for the outbound leg.
Norwegian for the return flight refund were another matter, pointed me at a website that you had to register for, except that it wouldn't allow registration no matter what.
Gave up in the end.

Norwegian went under, did it not?  Replaced by Norse after the lockdowns cleared up.

Think its still going isn't it, basically just contracted right back to be a Europe only budget carrier again.

exactly why they are cunts. The FO advice was 'no travel'. They flew an empty plane anyway

I wasn't asking for money back. merely to move flights. was going to cost nearly as much as the original flights to move.

stupidly I booked before the pandemic. Stupid because if I booked when things got more hairy they put a no (or low) fee to change dates. But because I booked before ...

And no, I didn't check my insurance policy for world pandemic cover. Did many before COVID?

easyJet didn't do these shenanigans, you could move dates.

Ryanair flights themselves have been fine

Had a flight to Rome with Ryanair cancelled because of the Pandemic.

Took the Voucher & used it to go somewhere else with no issues.

When you realise that Ryanair will try & fleece you for everything they can it becomes a lot more painless to use them.

Just like SleazyJet the flights are cheap & basic & any extras will cost you an arm and a leg but they can be really cheap.

It's a bit like booking a Premier Inn/Travelodge and trying to compare them with a four or five star hotel

Used them when they first started. The only airline at the time that offered free Wi-Fi onboard I think.

It's been done to death about Ryanair that 'you get what you pay for' and so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but the last time we used them they get everyone through the 'gate', checking their passport etc and then leave everyone either in a stairwell, or (worse when it's freezing/raining etc) stood like lemons waiting on the tarmac to clear the incoming plane. It doesn't hugely bother me, but for families or elderly people etc that then have to stand about waiting to board, does seem rather unfair when they could be sitting in the waiting area, in the warmth.
