Just noticed that Ray Lewington of the team which used to be Wimbledon is only 18 short of breaking John Trollope's record. Fair play to him but it makes me sad.

*Dean. Similar career length and goal record too interestingly. Although "technically" the first 29 were with a different team.

Sorry. Ray was his Dad. Is being a one club man significant?

He seems to be playing most games still so should get there this season, albeit considering they are having a pretty crap season and thus there will be no room for sentimentality it may be a bit of a close run thing, albeit I s'pose if they get relegated  he may have more chance of another season there to break it if he can't this year.

Whatever happens its always going to have an asterix next to it.

Yeah. Trollope holds the record for the most appearances at a single club (770). Jimmy Dickinson (764), Roy Sproson (760) and Lewington (700 odd and counting) are only 4 in history that are in the 700 club. Therefore the 2 clubs is quite significant (Horlock has mentioned the Asterix I note Smiley )

Not sure what is correct, but Wiki are suggesting 29 for the proper Dons and 753 of the fake ones for a total of 782, which suggests that if you consider the two as one (which you shouldn't) he has already broken Trollope's record, so its going to be games solely at MK (so 17 needed as the man Stevens noted) which he breaks it on so no asterix required.

Strange that all who have gone over 700 are all left backs.

Mentioned this in the summer. Despite the player/club/amount of ginger involved - it’s still a massive achievement tbf

Even if you take Wimbledon & MK as two separate clubs (as you should) Lewington is still potential on for breaking JTs record of most appearances at one club.

Terry Paine?

I took that directly from Wikipedia so it's almost certainly inaccurate. I don't remember it mentioning about Paine.
