I booked the lighting seeds for the demontfort student union summer ball in 1998.  Pissed it down all day, the tent was leaking and we had to give them the cash up front promising if it rained again during the set they could fuck off.

It started raining half way through the last song Three Lions which they played to the end and then buggered off.

Got very lucky there.

Doing a bit of research and noted a LS album called Four Winds which I had never heard of. Slightly more melancholic than Jollification given what Broudie went through. (death of both of his parents, a sibling committing suicide, breakup of marriage etc)

I guess the lesson here is enjoy what you have while you have it.

He did a pretty stripped back solo album in 2004 called Tales Told as well.  Worth a listen.

Smiley. I think I might've last seen that in the 70s.

Ah these guys were such geniuses. My young memories of Barker are of having to sit through Porridge at my Nan's on a Sunday, my (kind of) Grandpa in control of the remote and being bored witless. Watched it all back recently and it was amazing.

A few months ago I was walking down a street in Oxford an noticed one of those circular blue historical plaques on a very modest terraced house. It was Ronnie Barker's former residence, I didn't even know he had lived here. His family moved to Cowley when he was 4 and he went to school in the area, before training as an achitect (only did it for 12 months), became a bank clerk, then went into dramatics.

Saw that tribute show to him not long ago and I was balling and laughing when they showed the clips of him and Corbett reunited to do 'The Two Ronnies Sketchbook', filmed July 2005 before his death in October the same year. You could see he was not well but was determined to leave a final part of his legacy. What a guy.

He was a miserable old sod, apparently. Like a lot of funny men.
