I spoke to a mate yesterday who is an Aldershot fan (goes home and away). He reckons that Adam May is a bit special. Only played about 5 games for them last season, scored 2 goals on his debut and was their best player for the 5 games until he got recalled. He reckons that they would not have struggled as much if they would have had him for longer.
I know it is a level down and a different standard but it was good to hear. He even jokingly voted for him in their POTY vote as he said he did more in those 5 games than the rest of the squad for the whole season..
They got relegated but ironically got re-instated last Saturday after Gateshead? got demoted because of breaking numerous rules in the NL.
There a bit on the Pompey forum about him. Good move for both parties I think. One of those players who I cant quite tell if he is going to make it. Has ability, as he showed when on loan to Sutton in that televised cup game against Arsenal.
Adam May is a good player, but there are two things he needs to show. Firstly, that he can score goals. He isn't strong enough to be a holding midfielder, and if he is going to play further forward he needs to get his share of goals, a bit like Ben Close did at the end of last season. Secondly, he has to actually use his talent to impact games, not just look tidy. Here, Thompson, B. is the example to follow where a fringe player with talent at Millwall came to Pompey and (almost with an "I am too good for this level" attitude) was prepared to take a game by the scruff of the neck.
he has the talent, but he has to do it week-in-week-out, on a rainy Tuesday night in Plymouth, not just when the cameras are there.

Joe Riley could be the unnamed LB/RB according to a Bradford fan on football forums.
Apparently on his way to Salford City in a swap deal.

Suspect we're all going to be very tired of hearing about Salford signings by the end of the summer.

Its going to be a bit like the PdC L2 season, every half decent player from this division was linked with us, seems to be the way with Salford this season.

Presumably everyone in league 2 will hate them while supporters of clubs higher up will look at the plucky little club doing well! I look forward to hating the bastards!

I'm not counting the lads who signed first year pro terms.... but it was Wellens who moaned about having players in the squad who don't play, and therefore he wanted 20 then loans. For that reason it suggests he sees the likes of Henry, Twine, Curran, Romanski as potential starters. Al signed on his watch
Hello, 33000 contributions is quite a contribution to history on here. With all due respect, are you absolutely certain Wellens wanted 20 plus loans, not 20 including loans. A squad therefore of 25 is no different to many seasons in the past!

26 and 31, at least that rules out that daft Simpson rumour!

Alan Nixon now saying Blackpool are leading the race for Devitt.
I wish the saga would get decided by a race, would at least sort it out!

To be fair, if there was some sort of managerial sports day, I'd back Wellens to do pretty well. Only 39 and still looks in decent shape. Got 11 years on Blackpool's boss, which has to be helpful.

I want to work with 20 players. That’s enough – including two or three young lads. This is what Wellens said on hearing the news that Power had frozen the budgie. I can see how you might interpret it as 15 + the 5 loans, but we already have about 16/17 with one loan, so think it will be 20 of our own.... the 2 or 3 being the likes of Curran,Twine Henry and possibly Joe R who he signed.

Incoming: Zeki Fryers (who??!)
Released by Barnsley, 26, left back, has a bit of league experience.

On paper a very good signing. Great pedigree. Was in the middle of a weird tug of war between Spurs and Man Utd as a youngster. After training with Spurs upon release from Utd, signed for Standard Liege on a free as was out of contract, allegedly financed by Spurs, who then signed him 6 months later. According to RW, Palace once paid £5m for him. I like this signing alot.
