Seems odd to only sign him till end of season, although I suppose it could be an insurance policy if he is on big wages and we fuck up promotion, with a trigger to extend if we do go up.

Under the circumstances that’s how I see this too.

I would guess that is exactly the reasons behind it.

Shrewsbury saying we paid an undisclosed fee for him, which makes it even odder that it would only be till the end of the season.

Town will have options. Almost certainly.

If we don't go up, he gets a L1 club next year. Works all round I'd suggest.

We probably had to pay up the remainder of his contract, or at least the difference if he signed on for a lower wage, also an agent fee too, I doubt it was much TBH.

Power was speaking a while ago about signing players on frees from clubs and he said that fees and settlement deals have to be paid even if the player is on a free transfer, he stated we paid around £50k to Chelsea for Conroys contract, he also mentioned a fee for a few other players said to have been "free transfers".

So, we pay Shrews a fee. He’s then OOC in the summer and, if he chooses, can then sign for someone else for free?

Mmmmm!

His Shewsbury contract was only till Aug 2020 anyway according to the (infallible) wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Grant_(English_footballer)#Shrewsbury_Town

Presumably we got him 'cheap', and snuck an extension clause in his contract?  Hmmm

As Grant hadn't asked for a transfer he'd have been due some dosh from Shrewsbury from any sale, so I;d imagine we've just ensured they are not out of pocket.  If we go up we can probably convince him to stick around for another year or two, if we somehow implode he gets the option to move on and we don;t get saddled with another big wage for a player not fully committed.  Works for all parties I think.

Might be worth nipping down to the training ground later this week to see if there are any new faces.
Have we got one yet ?

Gone are the days you could simply rock up at Liddington and pass the time watching the players get put through their paces.

I believe it was Fitton’s mob that put paid to that - do you also recall they had the cheek to deny loyal supporters the chance to attend an AGM....  Hmmm
