For all we know, Palmer might be one of our best midfielders.
Let's give him a full preseason and a few games before writing him off as a panic signing.

Lyden and Rose only managed 20 odd each last season. One is prone to injury and the other you could say was more of a squad player. With rose likely to go now I reckon and Lydens injury record against him, we may well rely on Palmer a lot this upcoming season.
Yes we have a number of CMs on trial and linked with (very unlikely they sign anyway), but who is to say that they take the role Palmer had at the end of last season. Grant as well on the wrong side of 30 surely won’t be able to play every game.

Not sure it's writing him off its just factual, he didn't play much after being signed and was down the pecking order,vwe are now looking at a few more and he could be again.

Maybe, maybe not, thats football its about opinions and I was just saying what mine was on the subject, in football nobody knows what will, can or is likely to happen. He could start in the friendlies and displace Doughty and Doughty not play again, I am just saying that if Grant, Doughty, Lyden and Rose are fit then he had trouble displacing those last season and if we sign any more midfielders then thats even more competition for a handful of places (usually 3 is preffered by Wellens). If Grant stays fit, which with his fitness record I see no reason why he can't, then thats currently 4 players vying for 2 other midfield slots as well as any other additions in the close season and Doughty and Lyden obviously have the jump on any of them if they stay fit. |
