To me he is far the best manager Swindon has had since Hoddle.

Based on a couple of good months in the basement division. In which we actually have some very capable footballers for the level.

Holy fuck.

Enjoyed reading all your responses after I asked about your thoughts on Holloway.
Regarding the Bradford incident. I saw the footage and then Holloway's comments after. I'm guessing it was someone gobbing off as they were angry with the performance and then getting some back from the manager, or am I missing something?
I think we can move on from that as it's improved significantly since then. People get upset as football is a passionate game. I quite like it when managers, players give a bit back after getting pelters.

Out of interest
Who do you think would have done better than Ian Holloway when he first came here ?
And just for a laugh who do you think has been better excluding Wellens ?

Impossible to say but I think he's done a first rate job after taking a little while to come to terms with where we were.

Garner got us into the playoffs over the course of a season with league enforced budget restrictions and a late assembly of squad. Though the caliber of player brought in seems higher so its subjective.

The point isn't that Holloway *won't* be out best manger since...its that he hasn't done enough *yet*.  Coulld win the league with record points next year and we'd have a different conversation.

A reminder Flynn W 5 D 4 L1 (19 pts) in his first 10, we are currently W 6 D 2 L 2 (20 pts) in our last 10 - just an illistration of snapshots being insufficient to judge things.

Eye witness...

The gist:

Fan: Weve paid to come all this way and thats not good enough!

Holloway: Dont come then!

The fella goes everywhere, home and away, has done for years.

IMO Holloway was wrong....

Regardless of the money spent, Di Canio won us the league and had us on track to win the one above as well.
That pisses all over what Holloway has done currently.

What was worse, was the fact that he used his post match interviews to carry on his criticism of the fans.

I would have to disagree that it 'pisses all over' what Holloway has done.

After 38 minutes of the Colchester away game at 4-0 down,  in my mind we were absolutely, 100% down. We were dead man walking. But not only that, I feared for our survival in the National League, never mind bouncing back. We were sliding down a very long slippery slope with no hopes of stopping and no prospect of coming back any time soon... or ever for that matter. The future looked very, very bleak at that point. Dropping out of the League would have been (and still would be) catastrophic.

There are very few managers who could have turned it all round (Warnock maybe?) and we absolutely lucked out by having Holloway on our doorstep, available and desperate to get back into football.

I would agree that he's got some things wrong, certainly the incident with the fan at Bradford but I would say that comes from the fact that he says what he thinks and tends to 'shoot from the hip'. I think those qualities have far more pros than cons though and here's a thought, if he was asked about that incident now, maybe he would say he got it wrong...I don't know if he would but it's quite possible.

I just think that whatever happens from this point on, what Holloway has achieved in the last few months should not be down played in any way.

Yes...
Andy King seemed to get things going well
As for Michael Flynn, I thought he was an idea guy to be here. Just don't understand how things went so wrong for him here. Aldershot was a shocker
Suppose we need to include Danny Wilson 1st season as well. Much higher league.

Well yes, I was.

It was very obvious to many that Kennedy wasn't getting anywhere near the best out of the group we had. Our squad on paper should've been nowhere near the bottom.

I'm not discrediting what Holloway has done, he's done well, but it's not like he has nothing at all to work with. It's just that Kennedy was so horrifically bad it's made what Holloways done seem revolutionary.

Many people said our squad had nothing about it. In my opinion that was never the case. Fair play to Holloway for the upturn so far but that's just the first step. I'm a long way off singing Ian Holloway's red and white army, which is always the test for me personally

If the Bradford incident was in isolation, I wouldn't have a problem with it, these things happen in the heat of the moment and we move on.  My problem is that Holloway is turning into a serial fan blamer and that is the bit I roll my eyes at..  We had Bradford, the fans destroyed Freckleton, the fans are only wearing Orange hats because they were free, negativity, blame culture etc.  all of these things without fully understanding any reasoning or history behind some of these things before he shipped up.  Even this week he doubled down on Freckles again with the apparent booing when he was introduced on Saturday.

You can't bang on about fans negativity and blame culture when you are doing exactly the same in return.

That's just my take on it, like I say, not a massive deal, but a definite eye rolling moment every time he takes a sly pop at the fans.  If you genuinly want us all on side, that is hardly going to help.
