“We are confident that Ian's experience and leadership qualities which he has shown for many years across not just at Premier League level, but the top five divisions of professional football, will be a significant asset for Swindon Town Football Club."

Good to see Russell is already planning for non league football with this appointment.

The comments from Grimsby fans on Twitter… “he’ll try and get fraudsters involved like he did here”. It’s suddenly obvious why he’s been appointed then….

At least Russell is a realist it seems!

View from a Grimsby fan -

I'm not quite as hated towards Holloway as some so i will give you a more balanced view ish .

He came in and promised the earth + invested 100k and constructed a relatively decent team of established league 2 players Billy Clarke from Bradford who i thought was good and a few others , I can't really remember who now but it was decent football for a brief spell .

The unravelling started around Covid and the release of key players due to the club thinking the season wouldn't pan out , once it was established it was he went on a more adventurous mission of signing anyone he thought had potential below conference South/North with potential , putting them all together as a mish mash and getting pumped a lot . His demeanour and interviews were unhinged at best ; I actually think he might have been mentally unwell at the time .

But the main issue Town fans had/have was the more murky goings on at that time , it became known that the then owner & Holloway (allegedly) were in bed with a convicted fraudster who wanted to 'invest' in the club ; this was outed by local media and both The owner bought out & Holloway running away very quickly having never invested 100k in the first place

We got relegated a few months later

Other Town fans might have a better timeline / bits to add but that's my recollection of sorts with more bits that could probably be added with more thought"

Thought I'd pop in and have a read as Holloway been mentioned on this forum alot over the years. Hope you're good pal. I don't do twitter anymore. Sacked that off last year so not seen how lads like yourself are getting on.

Jeez, give him a chance. Experience at least.

We will. But the issue here is the complete absence of any strategy.

1 - Internal appointment of untested manager (Lindsey) - tried and failed (despite his now obvious qualities)

2 - Appoint a high profile academy coach (Morris and Brand) - tried and failed.

3 - Internal cheap option - Gunning - failed.

4 - Experienced lower league manager (Flynn) - failed.

5 - Internal cheap option again - Gunning - failed.

6 - Supposedly more progressive experienced option - Kennedy - failed.

7 - Retired wildcard self-styled joker who can get to Swindon for £15 on the train and has alleged links with criminals running football clubs - match made in heaven - yeah, why not.

You keep going Swindon Town. The plan is clear.

So Holloway invested £100k in Grimsby when appointed. That's an interesting aside, isn't it?

Luckily Swindon would never pick a player based on their dad paying for them to be in the team.

Sounds a perfect match for us then.

Lives locally so I imagine so.

Cant imagine he would have come that cheap? It's all very odd. Such a random (desperate) change in approach. On a positive note, i guess he wont take a shit and we can say goodbye to the 3-5-2 formation. He's a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 man, right?

Well, at least he won’t have to try and get fraudsters involved - they’re already here.

It was obviously a job only the desperate would take on - no self respecting manager/coach would be interested.

Smells a lot like a Sheridactyl appointment.

God help us.

Think that’s the point, the £100k investment didn’t actually happen. It was a lie…

That’s what I was wondering. I think he is.
