I'm still expecting Glatzel to leave. And Khan if there's a decent offer (only 1 year left on his deal)

Big fan of both. Think Khan in a box to box role with license to drive forward will be a massive asset this year.

He's a bit of a liability defensively so just don't give him that task!

I think Khan is possible, I'm less sure why people think we will move Glatzel on now.

I think they need to move on some deadwood.  No sign of Aguiar in the images/video from the club for example.

Interestingly Kennedy didn't mention Uwakwe when talking about wing backs. So either he's used further forward (front 3 as per youth role at chelsea) or he's moved on. He has been shown in media content this week.

Or, Uwakwe is eminently forgettable?

Well we’ve 23 and he wanted a 24 man squad.
I think we will see another 3. LWF M & CB

But half of it is proven shit.

But half of it is proven shit.

I think it’s fair that Ricky A, Uwakwe, Cain are the 3 who would be first out the door.

I honestly think for the most part we will only be playing two midfielders until we switch to a 3-5-2 for certain games.
I’d love to see khan further forward as other have said but Jay Williams from Crawley fits the squad as he can play CB and DM.
No doubt some loans will come in once the youngsters have hopefully found some loan moves themselves.

The rest of the squad although part of a disaster last year have some promise.
Even though I love Dokes, in the grand scheme of things, a whole new back 3 was the right move.

I was a tad unfair, half of the half is proven shit, the half of the half is unproven youth.

You can argue a good XI on paper, I think you struggle with pretty much every replacement being up to the grade bar one or two.

Think we’ll have to move some out before some more can come in.
Just an assumption but think we might be squad capacity.

The obvious players who need to move on / be moved on is within Cain, Uwakwe, Aguiar & Dworzak.
I would be against a fit Cain seeing some first team football but the other three I have no hopes for.

There is room to get some of the defenders out perhaps Minturn, Johnson, Hart, McGregor but they’d probably be loan moves (and there can’t be a mass of wages there)

I’m fully behind Kennedy’s thoughts re: loan & trialists.
Only get a few loans in if the players in question of our much better quality than our current players & if you do business early enough & well enough you shouldn’t need trialists to pad out pre-season friendly squads (but nothing wrong with one or two absolute random punts from obscure countries)

We signed Cureton & Thorpe and looked how that worked out.
We won’t know for a while if this team will come good and gel.

Looking forward to Sat nonetheless and haven’t said that in a while.
I’m doing my best to separate the off the field stuff.

It’s also worth saying that although we could end up with a similar injury list,
we had a bench load of defenders/wing backs out last season.
A squad of 24 ( more than 2 per position is absolutely fine)
It’s just making sure the transfer window hasn’t passed when you need it most.
Or in our case, a transfer ban which narrowed our net massively.

Thorpe has to go down as one of our worst signings of all time.
Cureton wasn’t much better either.

Cureton was good the following season - top scorer in the Championship

Lets assume the starting XI would be something like:

Bycroft, Sobowale, Wright, Delaney, Johnson, Longelo, Ofoborh, Clarke, McGurk, Smith, Glatzel

That looks OK - as I say, on paper at least.

The Second team would be:

Evans, McGregor, Minturn, Hart, Nobody, Kokolo, Khan, Cain. Aguiar, Drinan, Nobody - there are a couple left over because they don't back-up one of the missing players - Uwakwe, Dworzak, Brown.

I don't see how, as a squad (not the improvement in first team experience), that's any further forward than last season - at the start of the season.  Now, we have plenty of time vs, that comparison, but I still see us as six players short of competing and it would suggest very little change in budget if we had to ship players out to fund them.  There can barely be any wage used on that second team.

It's not just paper thin (in my mind) it's bad.  I'd barely trust two or three of those to fill in.

And I went for 3-5-2/5-3-2 on the basis the front players suggest we are not shaping up to use three in the starting line-up given how ight we look on numbers there.

I can't remember us being in better shape for the supermarine game in many years.

This is the worry though. The budget could very much be the same as last year but we've just spent it early to get ST sales.

I will give the club the benefit of the doubt for now, and hope that another 6 or 7 are incoming.

Else, it's just last season again but in reverse.

Have updated the first post. As the club are increasingly vague about contract lengths, that's now in its own bit with a lot of unknowns. Has anyone seen anywhere (Morshead or someone well connected confirming is fine, OS obviously ideal) contract lengths for Wright, Hart, McGregor, Delaney, Longelo, McGurk, Ofoborh, Clarke, Brown, H Smith at all?
Jaxon Brown’s agency posted this earlier “Congratulations to our guy Jaxon Brown for signing a 2 year contract with Swindon Town FC!” -

Another one to update on the list.
