Good signing (assuming a thorough medical has shown he is good to go). Lovely story to boot if he can have a successful career after his heart problems. Seems to be a character, in a good way, as well. Keep Khan (so long as he wants to stay). If you announce a signing on a Thursday, I reckon there’s a signing coming today. Not Sonny Hart please!

If we can keep Ofobrh fit and healthy hes a cracking signing.
I would pick McGurk over Khan 9 times out of 10, Khan on his day is a good player but McGurk adds something special in the attacking role.
Also it depends of Khan has recovered from his fairly nasty injury that he picked up in April.
I am still undecided on Khan, can be classy and just as often a liability.

I think McGurk is more a ten or wide forward though, really not sure he'd contribute much in a deeper role, but maybe, it's not like we've actually seen that much of him.
If you had a 4-3-3 of something like
Clarke Ofoborh Khan Glatzel Drinan McGurk
or a 5-2-1-2
Clarke Ofoborh McGurk Glatzel Drinan
That seems fun. Lots and lots of running and a fair bit of skill.

Khan has his plus positive points but main negative point is his tactical discipline - which is a hugely important one for a DM
Quite frankly if Kennedy seems him as a DM we might as well bin him off.
He drives forward. He can run with the ball. He’s chaotic & a bit unpredictable. Could he do a job as a number 10? Not convinced myself but think his attributes make him more suited to a#10 than a DM.

Its hard to judge McGurk fully as hes played only 400 mins in total for us but theres definately something special there, 2 goals in 400 mins is a good strike rate for a midfielder. I was thinking about formations too and ideally I would play McGurk in that central free role with Glatzel and Drinan up front, and Clark and Ofoborh would be the base with Dokes and Kokolo attacking wingbacks, then we just need 3 solid centre backs, or at least 2 and play Khan as an extra in midfield in a 442. Several options for Kennedy with what he has already, then we need at minimum good squad players to add to that.

If it were purely up to me - I’d go 4231 with McGurk as the central of the 3. Based on nothing other than it being in vogue I expect wing backs from Kennedy. So for me then it would be a bit like CB CB CB WB WB CM CM AMC ST ST …with McGurk as the AMC. It’s how we originally used Sammy Igoe way back when.

Khan has a great engine for sure but as you say he lacks tactical awareness and discipline for the roles he has played. No way will he every be a DMC, but he can play the box to box role well at times but he also loses his head too quickly and that costs him a lot of bookings.

I'm assuming Aguiar and/or Cain will be moved on?

In fact in that formation we could almost put out a reasonable team
Bycroft
McGregor
Dokes Hunt Minturn
Kokolo
Clarke Ofoborh
McGurk
Glatzel Drinan
…we’d obviously need Hunt & McGurk to sign.
You’d need to upgrade CB there massively.

I'm assuming Aguiar and/or Cain will be moved on? Aguiar has been linked to a few National League sides. I could see Cain staying as a squad player or maybe moving to Newport. Neither seem likely to be a big factor if we're looking for more combative midfielders. I'd be tempted to keep Cain for his set pieces off the bench.

I don't really care what formation we play as long as it gets the best out of the team, Glatzel and Drinan seem more like a natural front 2 rather than Drinan playing a lone 9 with Glatzel as a wide player so that does probably lean towards a 3-5-2. Dokes and Kokolo are more than capable as WBs of getting good balls into the box for Drinan to attack. We desperately need 5 good CBs in now.

I'm just looking at it from a numbers game. Min expectation is 2 players per position. If you consider midfielders we already have Ofoborh, Clarke, Khan, Cain, Aguiar and Dworzack. Lets consider Dworzack a youth. There is only one spot for your 6 midfielders (assuming a 3 man midfield). I would want lots more goals and attacking options among those 6. So one of Aguiar or Cain, if not both need to be moved on so we can replace with better right?

FIVE? Not a chance in hell. We have Dokes who can play there. Minturn will be considered a first team player, plus potentially the lad Johnson. So i would expect two maybe three CB's to come in.

I think Minturn could really do with a good NL loan, we've basically seen nothing of Johnson so could be no. 4 or 5 CB. Dokes is a FB or a WB, his inclination to drive from CB was one of our biggest problems last season.
If common perception is 2 per position then we need at least 4 based on what we already have, 3 of which should be 1st choice.

I’d consider Dokes at RCB is we are playing with wing backs. Yes his attacking player caused as much harm to us as it did the opposition but that wasn’t helped by Brewitt or indeed FBT doing the same thing the other side. If we go 3 CBs but Dokes is the only attack minded one I could live with that. Whilst I think we need to upgrade our CBs we already potentially have the numbers. Dokes, Minturn, Johnson, Hunt & Hart (if they sign pro deals) that’s 5, right there…
