I might be deluded, but I still retain the opinion that Wakeling and Jephcott showed promise as a strike pairing.
The performance at Mansfield where we scored 5. With the midfield diamond.
Why didn't we stick with that?

Wakeling at 23 still has some promise for me, but Jephcott....hes 25 now and playing his trade at the Bananarama South level, which for me is his ceiling.

He's scored a few hasn't he? After not scoring after leaving us until he got there. Maybe found his level.

Yet another one that wasnt very good and signed on an extended longer deal because he scored a couple of goals in a couple of games
But there were many who were up in arms because (despite him being 4th choice striker) we cashed in on him when Peterborough came calling. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad deal after all?

I think he showed some promise, and if we could keep hold of him was worthy of providing time to enable that. The issue with selling him was more around the timing - we were stripping down an already bare squad with no hope of getting anyone in of decent enough calibre.

I don't think selling Wakeling was the issue. It's the fact we did it late on deadline day and didn't replace him.

Bit of chat about Ripley looking for a club further north. (seems a bit of a recurring theme) I've been impressed with him, his kicking isn't amazing but his general goalkeeping attributes seem to be good for L2. I would imagine he probably wants to be in a promotion chasing side, and I'm not sure under our current owners he's going to get those guarantees.
He'd make a terrific number 1 for the next couple of seasons. Looks like the reliable keeper we've been looking for for some time.

I agree, I really hope he is willing to move South in the Summer but thats increasingly unlikely it seems.
A very solid L2 keeper.

Shame if he isn't able to move south, but if I had options I wouldn't move my family if I were in his position either.
Running full length of the pitch to bundle in the town end was marvellous.

I didn't see his response to the Town End "She Fell Over" banter when he slipped kicking out at that end?

As we have seen with a stream of loan keepers in recent times general goalkeeping abilities seem to be overlooked for keepers who are OK with their feet! If you look into his history (I linked a story previously somewhere) he has made much (before coming here) of wanting to stay round Preston where the family (including his plethora of kids) are settled. I s'pose our only hope may be if he doesn't get a comparable offer any nearer home....
