I always thought it crossed the line anyway in 66 although the tv quality doesn't exactly make it conclusive. Based on the Japan game though and the explanation of the rules, I'm not so sure it did.

In the replay I saw it looked as though the ball had definitely gone out of play, by a cm or two. Most of the photos I've seen don't show the ball when it was at it's furthest from the goal line.

My lad is into Beano/Dandy comics at the moment, and gets them from the Prospect Hospice for 30p each. All over 30 years old. He loves them.

I used to get those as a lad in the 70s, along with Buster and Whizzer & Chips.
Got some 1980s VIZ comics in the loft too.

I had a joke printed in the Joe King section of the Beano in about 96. It went:

Prisoner: I’m free! I’m free!

Little boy: so what? I’m four

Of course, every midweek match. The footy special was £2 for about 10 years before he put it up recently. £3 ish now for a jumbo sausage and chips. Bargain

He used to have the chippy on the magic roundabout before moving to gorse hill.
