Mr Smug here. Feeling pleased with myself.

4 months after being told I had Type 2 Diabetes when my blood sugar levels were 327 mg/DL I didn’t want to go onto insulin so tried to control it through diet change.

91 mg/DL today! Well within the limit. Woo hoo!

Ditched white bread and pasta for whole meal versions. Cut down on potato, too.

No fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cakes - I had a dreadful sweet tooth.

Luckily lager isn’t high in sugar so I’ve cut down but not completely. Bit more exercise, too. Lost a bit of weight which is a bonus.

Seems the big 3 I have - diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol are connected in a roundabout way.

Got the diabetes and blood pressure under control - got statins for the cholesterol.

Probably dramatically reduced your risk of heart attack and stroke too. Keep going, you're doing good.

Nice to see the breakdown motivation is the key so fair play to you.
I have a love hate relationship with wholemeal bread I find it hard to swallow and the taste really strong but do percevere as we all know the benefits v white bread. Cutting out the foods you have listed do you often feel hungry and what snacks do you now eat when you need something extra.

Used to buy those bags of mini chocolate bars from Lidl - maybe had 4 or 5 with a coffee. That’s gone now.

I buy a bag of frozen berries and a tub of Greek yogurt and have that for breakfast. Lunch is usually very light. Normal dinner. I don’t really snack at all between meals now - piece of fruit maybe. Coming off all the refined sugar has been a godsend, diabetes or not.
