Although not exactly conspiracy theory, I always likes a good far out idea in a book, when I was a youth.  Things like Erich von Daniken, Carlos Casteneda and theories about lost continents with advanced civilisations like Atlantis or Mu.

Cue for a song...

A particular favourite was The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross. John Allegro's theory that The Bible was written by people out of their heads on magic mushrooms Smiley

Forgot about Von Daniken, Liked his books. The stones of Kiribati rings a bell. Didn't he pass away recently? (either that or he jumped in his time machine) I went to a few Graham Hancock and Robert Bauvall seminars when I was into that sort of stuff. That was mainly on The Pyramids, Orion and the holy Grail. All good stuff.

Likewise Reg, I was a sucker for the likes of von Daniken, Lyall Watson and his "Supernature" nonsense yadda yadda.

Probably quite close to the reality though really, a bunch of bonkers monks in the early medieval period...

The Philadelphia experiment is my fave. I also like the Nazi base ones in Antartica/On the Moon. I actually once convinced myself I was being followed by the men in black after borrowing a book about them from Reading Library. And that is a mad fact! people.

David Ikes reptilian theory is my favorite.

For those not aware i'll just leave this here.
Reptilians (also called reptoids,[1] reptiloids, saurians, lizard lads or draconians) are purported reptilian humanoids that play a prominent role in fantasy, science fiction, ufology, and conspiracy theories.[2][3] The idea of reptilians on Earth was popularized by David Icke, a conspiracy theorist who claims shape-shifting reptilian aliens control Earth by taking on human form and gaining political power to manipulate our societies. Icke has claimed on multiple occasions that many of the world leaders are, or are possessed by, reptilians.

Also, it is obvious if a conspiracy theory is false when nobody who would have been involved in whatever scheme it was has come forward and sold their story to a newspaper (for example). If provable and independently verifiable it would be worth a fortune for the official deceit involved - or in the case of David Icke the reality of lizard people - being blown wide open in the media.

An example would be the moon landings. How many people were involved in Apollo? Hundreds of thousands? And not one has blown the gaff on "how it was faked". Would it be possible to swear that many people to secrecy? Of course not. Even Official Secrets Acts are worthless if you leave that country to make your fortune by telling all somewhere else.

PS this also disproves backwards time travel. I haven't met anybody who has come back from the future. Anyway, physics says it is possible to go forward in time but we haven't got the technology to achieve that yet so it hasn't started for human beings  Smiley

Well, I don't know about you, but I've been travelling forward in time for about the last 29 years.

whereas Eric Von Daniken's theory turned out to be shit because the Nazca Lines were in fact drawn by people who really were out of their heads on magic mushrooms (or similar) being directed, "Neil"-like, by a few spiritual dudes who were also quite handy at geometry
