Hearthfire is an awesome addon. You'll get a note from a Jarl at about level 8 - 10. Go follow up and you'll be given a chance to literally build your own house. I wasted 30 odd hours building and decorating a place. Even mined my own ore to make the building materials  |

Skyrim is excellent I played it almost every day for a year when it came out with the Heathfire and Dawnguard too which are good add ons that add extra lifespan with some good quests.
