It'll be even funnier if the rest of the Life Co's and the banks join them, which, now that Standard Life have stuck their head above the parapet, could quite well happen. I definitely think it was a case of waiting for the first one to jump to see what the public reaction would be.

They could kiss goodbye to around 50% of GDP if that happens. I'd like to see Salmond then try and run a country on the takings from a dwindling oil industry.
I swear the slogan for his yes campaign is "Norway did it".

But if rUK votes out of the EU, plenty of businesses are going to be doing a runner from here, so might prefer to relocate north of the border.

Like all those businesses that said they'd fuck off and leave us in the mire if we did not join the € ? Just remind everyone Reg which one's fucked off, why our overseas investment in UK PLC is the envy of the EU and how well the other EU countries are doing at the moment?

So seeing as you have tried to link the Scottish referendum with our EU membership let me bring to everyone's attention the 80/20 rule in business. 80% of most, not all, companies business is done with 20% of their customers. Applying the same logic to our EU membership our balance of trade with EU countries is weighted massively in their favour, in other words do you really think that the EU is going to want to throw away all that trade with us if we decide to leave? They're struggling as it is.

I'm not sure what Salmonds game is but either you're married or not. Sadly thanks to the last Labour administration we now find ourselves in this political game of ping pong. If the jocks do go, how long will it be before the Taffs piss off?

They can fuck off as well. Give Ireland back to the Irish and job nearly done. Chip Liverpool off from the mainland and use it as an Alcatraz, nuke Scumland and job finished

That depends on how we exit...it's perfectly possible to remain in the single market and remove ourselves from EU jurisdiction – thus have an economically “neutral effect”. Besides, big business has a habit of using threats like this to try to keep us in...not least because it is in their interest to remain members of the single market which allows them to avoid massive amounts of corporation tax.

The steak and mushroom baguette I've just eaten.

I ate chicken,  mushrooms and noodles last night with a couple of eggs scrambled in. Lovely. This getting back in to weight training is a curse  Smiley

Don't like to comment on the Scottish Independence subject as I'm not informed enough on the subject, but seeing intelligent people swallow propaganda and repeat it without considering the other side is soul destroying.

The media's reporting of SL's announcement, incidentally made on the same day as some less than inspiriting annual results, isn't surprising, especially when you look at the make up on SL's board.

Keith Skeoch, Executive Director of Standard Life, is on the Board of Reform Scotland, the neo-conservative lobby group which wants to abolish the minimum wage,  privatize the NHS and pensions and restrict trade unions further.
It is difficult for Tories openly to campaign against Scottish Independence as everyone in Scotland hates them, so they do it with their corporate hats on.  This is most of the board of Standard Life:
Keith Skeoch, Executive Director, right wing political lobbyist
Crawford Gillies, Non Executive Director, Chairman of Control Risk Group, of London, the “security consultancy” of choice heavily peopled by ex MI5 and MI6 officers
Garry Grimstone, Chairman, “lead non-executive” at the Ministry of Defence, London
Noel Harwerth, non-executive Director, Director of “London First” – [Honestly, I am not making this up]
David Nish – Chief Executive, Member of the “UK Strategy Committee” of “TheCity UK”. “TheCity UK” being a body of the City of London.
John Paynter, non-executive Director, was vice chairman of JP Morgan Cazenove until the 2008 crash
Amazing that lot oppose independence, huh?
Standard Life also threatened to leave at the time of the devolution referendum and gave out no campaign materials to staff.  “Leave” of course is a relative concept – the above bunch just pop up from London from time to time to check on how the serfs are doing.

Also how about commenting on some of the more positive analysts opinions, or do they not count? Standard and Poors report was positive http://www.businessforscotland.co.uk/independent-scotland-could-be-aaa-rated-standard-poors/

Like is say I'm not really up on the subject as I've not researched it enough, but reading up on one side of an argument is a bit of a stupid tactic, expect better from some on here.

Jan, it is hardly news that the Exec Board of a financial institution in the Uk would be made-up of London based right wing leaning types, is it?

Having followed the "arguments" a little, it would make me smile if they vote yes, just simply because it does seem it is based on a whole bunch of things they'd like to have rather than any firm commitment to what they will definitely get.  Whether or not we'd pull the pound for example is a mute point, fact is, it wouldn't be down to the Scots.
