Hearts losing to nine men Inverness Caledonian Thistle. After 93 minutes and 54 seconds they were 2-1 up. Lost on penalties in the end. Made my day, the gorgie bastards.

I like the fact that Gove seems prepared to a bit think outside the box...it's pretty obvious that the Education system in this country isn't fit for purpose and needs a radical overhaul...unfortunately it's like trying to turn a tanker...a slow old process, education....for example 80's teacher bete noire Kenneth Baker recently popped up in Swindon, promoting the UTC which he's partly responsible for setting up. UTC....is a part privately funded school which concentrates on engineering and allied skills for 14-19 year olds...a good idea, sort of thing the Germans have had for years, and about 50 years too late here. There needs to be a decision made, as to whether schools in the traditional sense, are needed any longer, meaning should there be a mix of different types of institute....my own feeling is that there should be a greater variety of institutes providing a wide range of different experiences....and these could be provided by State or private sector. |

Just copy the sodding German system where kids are graded on their whole progress through school as opposed to just one 2hr exam at the end of their schooling. Makes the whole thing less stressful and gives you a better overall view of the kid instead of on one afternoon where any number of factors could be affecting their grade.
But that of course would mean less money for exam boards and as we know there's no fucking chance of that happening anytime soon.

Part of the problem with British schools is that the kids are doing tests and exams all the time...not just at the end of schooling...the latest proposal, is that they should do tests aged 2, so that there's a clearer idea as to whether infants teachers are adding value to the kids. |

Gove is just the latest in a long line of full of shit government mouthpieces that sees those in charge of education continually change things in the hope it will make things better but seldom does.
Give it two years and somebody else will have scrapped the idea of formalised testing of 4 year old and replaced it with something else.
To say primary children aren't currently assessed and monitored is quite wrong. They are. Maybe it could be done better, not arguing with that. We'll see.
