Unless you have just lost a baby and happen across them.

But I agree, as has been said, can't be many of us that haven't told sick jokes. I just wondered where the line stood legally. Is not clear to me.

That was targetted directly at someone though.

If people who find dead baby jokes funny stand outside childrens hospitals shouting them - that would be an issue. As it is, although not overly witty, there isn't much harm in them.

Unless you have just lost a baby and happen across them.

But that logic rules out the telling of pretty much every joke. There is always a subject to a joke, and always a chance that that subject could hear it and be affected.

But then there are always those who aren't affected by the subject of the joke, or aren't offended by it and see the humour. It's difficult to seperate those people on the internet. Other than a no-joke policy, there's always the risk of offending someone.

I don't think it's a question of what you should or shouldn't be offended by, and its wrong to turn it into a debate about that. People have different values, and have every right to be offended by different things.

It's whether that assumption of offence should cause the censorship of others. And I don't think it should.

I don't find your dead baby jokes funny, but i'll defend with my life your right to tell them.

I don't think anyone is really telling anyone else whether they should be offended or not.  Some people find (for example) dead baby jokes tasteless, and others don't.  That's life.  There's no right or wrong about it.  Just need to be prepared for the eventuality that, if you do venture in to that territory, you're going to get some negative feedback as well as positive.

We have to buy our daughter a new bike as hers has an unfixable problem. Usually this wouldn't be an issue but when you have twins its very hard not to get into the "why is she getting a new bike and not me ?" situation.  Anybody with children will know the upset presents and gifts to one and not the other can bring and that young children don't really understand their jealous feelings.

So I sat them down this morning and explained that Little Miss B would be getting a new bike. I asked Little Boy Bew if that was ok and to be honest I expected tears and upset - his  reply  :

"That’s really cool, she'll be able to go as fast as me now"

My wife went out of the room in tears.
