What present do you get for a dead baby?

A dead puppy.

(Have you been on the same dead baby joke site that I have Barry?)

For me it's not that dead baby jokes are offensive it's the fact that they aren't actually funny in the slightest.

I was thinking yesterday of posting a picture of a dead baby up here to see whether it had anyone rolling in the aisles, but thought better of it.  Tasteless doesn't even cover it.

Agreed Ardiles, some people are sick and don't seem to draw a line

Busker was playing 'Wise Men Say' on a Thames footbridge on my walk to work this morning.  I had to stop and give him my change - which, embarrassingly, amounted to 6p.  Thought that counts though.

There's a significant difference between finding dead babies funny and finding dead baby jokes funny.

Agreed Ardiles, some people are sick and don't seem to draw a line

So where to draw the line?

People tell sexist jokes, racist jokes, stupid jokes, sick people jokes and so on....... all manner of jokes that are laughing at the misfortune of other people. For what reason is the line drawn at dead babies? Why is it worse than jokes laughing at the mass starvation of people in Africa, for example. (Never told an Ethiopian joke?)

People have the option to not be offended, they have the option to make that decision. If you want to be offended, that's up to you. Where I draw the line is where people no longer have that option and they are hurt emotionally or physically and with no option to stop it. Pretty good place to draw a line, but then that's just my opinion.

Jokes are harmless.

Some people will find it sick, some people won't. I guess the line is drawn in between those two groups of people. I tend to find daft offensive jokes funny, but certain subjects just won't make me laugh.

That was targetted directly at someone though.

If people who find dead baby jokes funny stand outside childrens hospitals shouting them - that would be an issue. As it is, although not overly witty, there isn't much harm in them.
