I know they are busy and have a job to do, but farmers and their massive vehicles. This morning I was heading to work and passed a big tractor with trailer coming the other way. This was on a slight right curve in the road. Suddenly there was some sort of massive combine type of machine, with tank tracks. It filled the opposite carriageway and was around a third into mine. We both stopped and I had to squeeze through, passenger wing mirror scratched up in the hedgerow, drivers mirror about an inch from the tank.
Firstly, why do they always seem to get on the road during rush hour? Secondly, surely that vehicle should have some sort of vehicular escort? Damn dangerous.  Bad Mood

Like the big tractor towing a trailer that preceeded it?

No indication it was escorting, besides it helped block the view of the tank until the last second.

All a little bit fishy/Captain Tom's daughteresque....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm2z0707mlgo

I can't have been the only one who was immediately suspicious of this story. I'm baffled how agents, publishers, literary awards and film producers took it at face value and not one of them ever thought to question the veracity of a story that basically amounts to "I cured my husband's incurable degenerative disease by taking him for a bit of a walk".

I guess they have the right to reply, if they dont hide behind 'legals'.

I guess people don't dig too deep when there's a cash cow paying out.

Way beyond my area of expertise but from a couple of pieces I have read (and its also popped up on a couple of podcasts) whilst the publisher etc will do some due diligence there is a massive legal responsibility in any contract that the author signs (with both publisher and I suspect film makers) that what they are writing is broadly true, I therefore suspect that if it starts looking like its going to cost people money these contract requirements will be activated sharpish.

FWIW I assume the author is pretty lawyered up now anyone considering the working of their 'rebuttal' statements etc, which have been prime examples of saying something but actually not really anything!

Didn’t know where to put this.

16 year olds will be able to vote in the next GE. Bank cards will suffice as ID.

Seems a shameless attempt by this failing Labour government to try and cling on next time round.

Yeah bring back Liz Truss...

Personally I think it's a great idea. I would go further and allow voting only for working age adults. 16-67.

Stop the government of the day pandering to the purple rinse/gammon brigade and actually think about the future generation.

The Boomer generation had it too good and need to help the younger generations now.

Obviously it would never get past our system which is set up to support the old farts of our Country in maintaining their entitled life styles.

If they are going to get the vote then that should end the ‘Can’t be named for legal reasons’ when they’ve been arrested and charged.

If you can pay tax to support the country, then you should be able to vote.

It was a manifesto pledge at the general election.

It was. And it was still a shameless attempt to strengthen v Tories.

I wonder if it'll backfire and the dick Farage benefit more than people think.

This is a great idea.  So many 16/17 year olds are politically aware.

The bank card thing is good, too. Johnson introduced id, but in a way that favoured pensioners, this redresses that.

And they're also introducing legislation to curb foreign interference (funding) in our politics which surely no one can disagree with.
