When people are having loud conversations on their mobile phones in public I have taken to playing heavy metal on my phone at full volume. Strangely they seem to think this is rude (oh the irony), albeit nobody has said anything to me yet.

I know it's only a proposal but the potential for a further £17 a year on energy bills is a joke.
What's the point of the cost cap if it can be bumped up because somehow the companies aren't making enough money?

To a bigger point - financial services companies need to pass liquidity tests and the nation are steadfast in having a free market, surely these companies need to prove they can self sustain before they take on selling a basic human right.

Speak for yourself, I'm happy to pay my money as I really worry about our supplier Shell*, going bust!!  Cheesy Wink

* Albeit I believe that Shell have, subject to regulator approval, flogged us off to Octopus anyway.

On a similar vein, probably because I have never given it any thought, I only discovered today that standing charges are not nationally set and instead set based upon your region!

On your last point, its the same as the water industry where privatisation has basically just created monopolies who have us over a barrel and are now bleating for more money to stop polluting the shit out of our rivers 'cos they have spent fuck all on infrastructure for years!

I will challenge your final point - they spent a fortune on infrastructure, just not, generally, on the boring stuff.  The Thames Tideway Tunnel for example was Billions.

The reason they all run out of money is because they leveraged themselves to the hilt using offshore financing arms they were owned by, leaving the next buyer lumbered with huge debts and interest payments.  All signed off on by Ofwat.  Precisely why the privatisation model used is so flawed.

door to door salesmen. Not the people or company per se as I get they need to get business somehow. But the issue is more that I've never come up with a tactic to get rid of them quickly. I always believe in giving people a chance but within 10 seconds I know if I want whatever it is they are doing or not - I signed up to a homeless charity one about a year ago via this method.

Yesterday someone knocked on my door selling Swish fibre broadband. I had no interest at all but I didn't know how to get rid of him and it took way longer than it should have done to tell him I wasn't interested.

I can honestly say I have never bought or signed up to anything when people knock on the door. WE don't get much round here albeit the 'just released from prison' lot seem to roll up on a regular basis (which I have always assumed is a scam, which would explain why we see so much of them as its a very aged population here).

Now fucking charity chuggers/energy salesmen in town centres is another thing... 'can I stop you for a chat lovely', 'no I'm not interested'!!

We've lived here nearly 3 years now and we definitely get more than we did when we lived in London. So far I've had a fish man from Grimsby, the homeless charity, some Eastern European people offering to cut our hedge, Swish fibre, the modern milkman (which we actually use) and possibly others that i've forgotten.

The area we are in is populated with a lot of (some very) elderly people so I suspect is targeted as they are seen as people more likely to be able to sign up. - Just noticed you said the same kind of thing Horlock Smiley
