Good example. Words matter. The emphasis is stark.

Also, why are Hamas ‘militants’ yet the IRA, for example, were always terrorists.
Sinn Fein were the party, with the IRA doing physical stuff, so the IRA are terrorists.
Hamas doesn't have the distinction so I think whilst Hamas is being brought on to the news the grilled over their war crimes, it'd be a bit far too be seen to delegitimise a "political party".

Caveat again - I don't agree with Hamas, just pointing out why the language used to describe them may be different to the example used

Yet, here, Hamas are a proscribed terrorist organisation. Offering support is an offence.

Poor old ‘Stop Brexit’ gets moved on yet flag waving Hamas supporters are clear to glorify in grisly murder.

This has always been the issue since day dot (not offering any opinion about Israel/Hamas as I really don't know enough about the topic/history) one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

I am not sure any of us in the UK know how we would react if our country were occupied by another power leaving us feeling oppressed, would you resist or comply?

In Palestine it just seems to be a perpetuating circle, one side does something fucking horrendous and then the other retaliates, on both sides just creating the anger (and fighters) for the next generation!

I hope we don’t have to find that out too soon.

I have me doubts, though. These madmen could easily bring about disaster.

Agree on the first point, our civil liberties are being attacked.

On the second - I think the line between being pro Palestinian freedom and pro Hamas needs to be very clearly drawn. Holding a Palestinian flag as has been reporting in jewish newspapers in the UK is not synonymous with supporting Hamas

I am pro freedoms for both Israel and Palestine but i don't agree with Hamas's terror or the Israeli state's approach

Nelson Mandela being a good example of freedom fighter/technically a terrorist.

Israel's very authortarian gov needs a strong enemy to justify the oppression of Palestine and Hamas needs a strong Israel to rebel against. As you say, it's just a cycle where both sides perpetuate each other, escalating and escalating

I agree with you.

Doesn't help that Hamas control Gaza, and they want to set up an Islamic State

Israel controls everything in and out of Gaza.
Hamas de-facto controls the political (eg terror) operations within Gaza, in spite of not being elected.

It's such a fucked up situation.

I didn't realise how unpopular Hamas are with parts of the Palestinian population, or in fact how unpopular the present right wing Israeli government are with many of their population (seen plenty of suggestions that Netanyahu basically let this happen for political gain and has blood on his hands).

In terms of this Hamas did something shit, lets bomb the shit out of Gaza and cut the power off, it's basically the equivalent on the British deciding to get the RAF indiscriminately bombing the shit out of the catholic parts of Belfast after an IRA attack.

Fucking human beings are pricks!

Yet again, religion is the reason.

TBF it was relatively quite until 150 years ago. Now things have been hyper partisan and people are dying as a result

edit - or maybe the ability to kill people from further away and easier became a thing

People, generally, just want to keep their heads down and get on with their lives. By the time a certain situation actually knocks on their door it’s too late. Apathy wins every times.

Regimes around the world will be lurching to the right. There are plenty of bogeymen to frighten people to vote for them.

Maybe we’re witnessing the beginning of the end for Western Civilisation.

Every civilisation has a sell by date. Why should we be any different?
