I can't remember the last time I've seen one but guessing there were plenty of caterpillars in the spring as there were plenty of Blue Tits etc around feeding their chics. |

Yes, it's kind of my job. Most people are probably down >12% YTD. Never nice to see investments fall in value but it's the first "correction" we've seen for a while and mostly expected given the current economic environment. Lots of commentators speculating that this time it's "different" but that's what they always say. There hasn't been a time that markets have fallen and not come back (yet). Give it time, things will recover. It's only a loss if you crystallise it now, otherwise stop checking the value for the next 6 to 12 months and you'll save yourself a lot of anguish. And if you've got money to invest now, well, the stockmarket is on sale - get it whilst it's cheap! |

Not ideal but couldn't you have started another private pension with the extra income if the job was ok? |

Probably not what you want to hear, but you'll struggle to find an employer in the private sector paying more than 3% into a pension. 5% tops maybe.
I definitely understand the maths behind your decision, but you've got to factor in the job satisfaction and your own happiness as well.
