Being woken up at quarter to 6 this morning by 4/5 calls from a withheld number. Nobody on the other end of the line, just silence. Had to turn my phone off as they kept ringing over and over again. Strange.

People who break down on the motorway and then stand at the front end of their car on the hard shoulder. This is most people from what i see and they are being stupid in doing so. If anything hits their vehicle then the chances are it will be coming their way.

Going back years I knew a family, 2 Adults and 3 kids who were all killed after being hit by a lorry whilst sitting in their car after breaking down on the Motorway. Agree, Standing on the hard shoulder is the last place you want to be !

When I first got a car I broke down on the M4 after my accelerator cable snapped. I was advised by the operator of the emergency phone to sit in the car and keep dry because it was lashing with rain. So I did. I was pretty stupid back then. And it ain't got better! Arriba is on the road a lot more, but in opposition to his view I see most people up a grass bank or behind the crash barrier where present. Maybe the people who drive m4 J16->J17 are uber intelligent. ------------------------------ Another issue with breakdowns. People who try to re-join the motorway from stationary instead of accelerating down the hard shoulder and feeding in at a sensible speed..

Being told to leave the car and remain the otherside of the barrier is the norm now I think? Not very pleasant for any females on their own though but still the safest place to be.

The crash barrier (if there) won't always help if an artic hits the car. People should always be behind the vehicle and away from it. I see plenty behind the barriers but they are still usually to the front of the vehicle which is dangerous. I'd say 75% of people i see are infront of their cars. Often families and as Notts mentioned it can wipe the lot of them out. Anyone telling someone to stay in their car should be sacked.

It was 1993 when I got that advice Arriba.
Bit of an eye opener if you see that many people stood dangerously.

I just had a look to see if the accident of the family I knew was mentioned in any archives, Page upon page of recent deaths on the motorway hard shoulders came up varying from people sitting in their cars to people standing or walking on the hard shoulder. The police advice is stay out and away from your car unless threatened and then advise people to get into their car and lock all doors.

Dual carriageway users who do the same speed in the overtaking lane as the vehicle on the inside lane. GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!
Edit. This is for miles on end.
