I had wondered if he might be ill after seeing his most recent stand up, he did look to have aged quite a lot. He liked a smoke and a drink, so I can't say it's a complete surprise.

As much as I enjoyed his panel show appearances, and I loved his stand up, 15 Storeys High was his masterpiece. A cursory look suggests there's a fair few full episodes available on YouTube.

Incredible news, not many celebrities shock me when passing on but this has upset me. A modern King of dry humour stand up.

Sleep well Sean.

15 Storeys High was his masterpiece.

Think it was skin cancer so the smoking and drinking wouldn't have made much of a difference?

15 Storeys was great. Got the DVD at home and will watch it tomorrow night. I remember the one where he gets addicted to an energy drink, Blue Rat, and sets himself a challenge of shaking a load of snow globes in different positions around the room, doing them all and sitting down before the first one settles  Cheesy

He was one of my idols and I felt genuinely upset by this news. I saw him live twice and I could barely breathe I was laughing so hard. Just a naturally comic personality who could make the banal excruciatingly funny. Lost a true legend here, so we have.

Loved his sketch about winning a night with Madonna. Tried to explain it to others, but couldn't!

Such a waste at such a young age, i never knew him very well but spoke to him a few times about Swindon being above his beloved Chelsea in the table years ago and we laughed, a lovely man and good person, he will be sadly missed. RIP mate.

Sean Lock is brilliant live and a really nice bloke, I had a chat to him about Glenn Hoddle when I met him in Edinburgh a few years back he loves his football does Sean, big Chelski fan.

Sean Lock and Lee Mack are the comics that make me laugh the most on these panel shows, he'll be a big miss - RIP.

I actually had a look on Twitter yesterday which can sometimes be a very harsh place but universally the messages I saw were ALL positive and showed the outpouring from everyone far and wide.
