I think I would rather shove hot, vinegar soaked, rusty needles in my eyes than watch Barbie.

Nothing against the cast. Gosling and Robbie both appear in films I really enjoy but Barbie? Fuck no!

Watching the new-ish Matrix film on Amazon and it's... really quite bad. It's doing the knowing winking at the audience thing, but with all the subtlety of a collapsing building. And no other ideas. You can't make jokes about it being a lazy retread if it *is* a lazy retread.

So, the defence I've heard of that film is that Warner Brothers said to the Wachowski's that a Matrix follow up was being made wether they were onboard or not, so Lana Wachowski came on board and basically made it an inside reference that they were making a bad sequel on purpose as a 'fuck you' to WB. How true that is, I don't know, but the film is fucking rubbish.

That would certainly explain the first 40 minutes, which is more or less just... making that joke (to the point of literally naming Warner Bros in the script!). If that was what they were aiming for, it certainly achieved the goal.

The only positive I'll say is at least they didn't do the usual action reboot think of binning off Carrie Ann-Moss for a younger actress.

Been nothing but crap generated for years.

Barbie has already made it to streaming, sort of watched it the other night, I'm really not the target audience (and I would suggest my 10 year old daughter wasn't either) but its well put together and I think pretty good.

Dune was pretty good for a big budget epic.

Also enjoyed Living and Women Talking, but much less spectacular.

I know this will spark an outcry and a possible hunting down of me, but I liked it better than the first, at least production quality wise.  I also thought the score was better, which I know is akin to committing treason to say.  As much as I hate to say, it made me think a remake of the original might be a worthy endeavour.  And to be clear, I loved the original - just thought the sequel was a bit edgier
