Ha, shows how tastes differ. I thought it was terrible.

Oh I completely get why you’d think that, but I found it an easy watch.
It’s definitely more suited to the small screen though, too much to try and fit in in a 2 hour film, with no actual story behind it.

Yeah I am pretty set in my ways when it comes to film. I'm particularly fond of documentaries and films based on true stories and my brain struggles with lack of realism. It's definitely my loss though I'm sure!

Watched it. Utter escapism. Ludicrous plot but somehow watchable

Watched about 50% of All Quiet on the Western Front the other night after the other half went to bed.

I can understand why it has won a shed loads of awards as the filming and effects are brilliant, and it was interesting to see the tale told from the other side for a change (just emphasising that the lions led by donkeys and the way it fucked up a whole generation narrative can be applied to all sides in war), but the story didn't really seem to be anything particularly different to a plethora of similar films I have watched over the years.

Was listening to a film programme on the wireless about UK gangster films and they reckoned Sexy Beast was by far the best. Never seen it - or heard of it tbh. Is it worth seeking out?

 Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley are great in it. As is Ian ''Lovejoy'' McShane. You'll probably really love Kingsley as Don Logan and never forget the phrases;

'Look at your suntan, it's leather, it's like leather man, your skin. We could make a fucking suitcase out of you. Like a crocodile, fat crocodile, fat bastard. '
or
'...Deedee's still got a fan club. They meet up every month. The Wednesday Wank they call it. They're in big demand nowadays, those films. She's very popular. Very popular. You seen 'em? I've seen 'em. What a stain on your life. All the Persil in the world couldn't shift it. She's disgusting.'

If you do enjoy it, look out for the prequel series of it coming out soon as well  Wink

I've watched a lot of films lately that I'd recommend.

1. Boiling Point - Stephen Graham as a stressed out chef. All shot in one take; very impressive.

2. I Love My Dad - comedy with a bit of drama, about a Dad who, out of desperation to resurrect their relationship, catfishes his own son. Great performances from the two leads.

3. The Banshees of Inisherin - had to see what the hype was about. It was pretty good.

4. The Lost Daughter - Olivia Coleman is brilliant in everything she does and I really enjoyed the tension and chaos.

5. The Menu - Ralph Fiennes does swanky restaurant horror.

6. Triangle of Sadness - crazy and brilliant

I watched The Menu during the week after hearing Rich mention it on Loathed Strangers, thought it was brilliant.
