If we could land Payne or Kemp this summer it would be a big statement of intent by the club.

Don’t think Payne and Kemp can play together - that was the problem at MK.

That was not a factor.

MK lined up in a 3421 set up, or 523 if you will.

Payne played all season as one of the two players in the centre of midfield (so the middle of the 4 in the 3421).

Kemp when played, played as one of the two number 10's supporting a singly forward. The other usual being Gilbey.

It certainly didn't seem to work as well for Kemp having another person floating in that number 10 role.

I don't want Payne back.

Payne could play in a wide slot of a front 3 potentially, similar to how Bernardo Silva would play the role, with Kemp as a 10, his wages would be way out of our reach though given Lincoln still paid a fair whack whie he was here.

One of them is pie in the sky for me. I don't think we'll have the problem of playing both.

Please don't let my next sentence be taken as any sort of comment on Kemp's ability and the fact I think he was excellent for us, but.

Would it be a statement of serious intent, on it's own?  We had him last season and the squad wasn't up to it.  In fact, we had a first XI capable of competing - the issue at the start of the season was having near zero "been there and done it" and not enough back-up to allow for a 46 game season in this day and age.  A statement of serious intent would be having 11 first team ready players with a blend of experience and 11 back-up players that can at least do a job, show potential etc.

Poor Davison. Must've played every single game from January onwards. He was absolutely knackered by the time the playoffs came around. if only we had kept Simpson or added another body up front.
Pretty sure Garner said that Davison was signing regardless of Simpson’s situation. Having Harry Parsons as the only other available striker from January onwards killed us towards the end.

You know that when clubs buy a 'marquee' player it's a way of showing intent. Last season we were crying out for a DM to bolster the midfield and it's the first thing we've done in this transfer window.

I don't disagree that we could very well sign Kemp and not properly compliment him, or properly fill the squad, then it might be a statement of contempt, but you would think if we were to sign a player like Dan Kemp early in the window, it would definitely shift 1 or 2 season tickets off the back of it.

Team and not a squad like every year under Clem. Skimping.

I know there are reasons to be negative but damn it get exhausting some times.

Wellens title winning team was largely a team and not a squad. There is a very valid reason to get all your £ on the pitch to make the most difference, and not have it sat on the bench or in the stands.

Don't you mean scrimping? Or have you been watching the video where Zav Austin appeared in his pink pants?  No

Both seem to mean the same

Apparently, we’re talking to Kemp who is a free agent.

He is also a target for Gillingham, Pork Vile & Cheltenham.  He got on well with Flynn so can see him ending up there

I'll bet you some money that Wellens' team cost more to put together than anything we have done in the past three seasons.   A sort of rich mans version of what we did in January, but with better targeting on positions.  That team would piss on last seasons lot.

Oh for sure, it was a much stronger team and probably cost more.

But the strategy was the same, put your money on the pitch. You many remember the number of emergency defenders we had to use when Fryers/Conroy/Baudry got injured.
