The "model" is fine, it's just that we now have clear evidence that the supporting budget and infrastructure doesn't support it to that level, the level we need.  And even then, because it was put together by Power, nothing about it was designed to last.

Oh for sure, it was a much stronger team and probably cost more.

But the strategy was the same, put your money on the pitch. You many remember the number of emergency defenders we had to use when Fryers/Conroy/Baudry got injured.
Was the strategy the same? At the point the season was suspended under Wellens we had 12 players who had played more than 100 EFL appearances plus a few proven performers higher up the food chain but with questionable injury records like Lyden, Isgrove and Fryers. The punts on the fitness of those 3 is about the only thing similar to our ‘strategy’ now.

We’ve not got close to that level of experience any season under Morfuni.

It was not a comment on the level of experience. It was highlighting the strategy to spend your money on your first eleven, and hope you can keep them fit. And not spending money on squad players.

But we did have a squad under Wellens, the crisis was because Conroy injured himself early in the season and left us short.

The bench for our last game of the L2 season had McCormick, Isgrove, Woolery, Hope and Palmer on it. Proven L2 performers and a massive step up from what we’ve had in the bench under Morfuni.

It’s chalk and cheese.

At the end of the season yes. Because in Jan, Power saw where we were and committed to getting promoted and spent the cash. Hope/Palmer amongst others that were added to the squad. That is not how the season started.

I looked up the bench on the first day of the season at Scunthorpe... I wouldn't have got many on the Sporcle quiz!

Tyler Reid, Adam May (who?), Dan Ballard, Scott Twine pre-Newport, Taylor Curran, Will Henry, Diallang Jaiyesemi

Yeah, was doing the same, and looked at one a little later against Orient. Broadbent was there with Reid/May/Woolery/Twine/Curran/Henry. So at the time the only 'real' first team player there was Woolery or DJ in the first game.

FBT signing for Mansfield

Surprising that, and a very good move for him. As long as Mansfield don’t ask him to defend he should do okay…

Good move for FBT. I liked him. I think he should be okay in league one, but not much better than okay. Good league two player though.

Low key i don't like Mansfield (and certainly dont like Clough). Always seemed like such a nothing club to me.

But the point is when has Morfuni ever done that, it’s always the complete opposite in that we come out of January weaker.

Back then we still had that bench despite Conroy, Iandolo, Baudry and Rose out injured. We can only dream of strength in the squad like that now.

Last season we had 3 or 4 players with 100 EFL appearances, season before it was about 6. When combined with a non existent bench I’d still say it’s a very different strategy. We’ve gone from a strategy of 11 experienced campaigners with 7 or 8 first team regular capable players to barely even having 11 first team capable player last season supported by complete punts, it’s hardly surprising our league position has consistently deteriorated year on year.

Didn’t FBT tell anyone that would listen he had just moved to London and wanted something closer to there?

Maybe something changed with his circumstances, but in the end, who cares, he is no longer our player

Unsure how he’s got himself a move to League One. Looked decent, at times, in a couple of very, very poor Swindon sides. Second half of this season he became just as bad as the rest. Always felt fans’ views on him were inflated due to the fact everyone around him was so poor. A steady left-back, but IMO, there is no way he can cut it as a CB in L2, let alone L1. Fair play though, will probably end up proving me wrong
