It’s be nice if we could actually sign a core of experienced players. I’d love to see someone like FBT come back, not fussed about Austin.

Pull a solid 8 or 9 senior pros together and fill the rest with young loan players like we’ve done in the last. Least then you’re less reliant on the loans if they get recalled early.

This is a rumours thread, not a gospel thread; many people here post stuff which then contradicts what they or others have said previously. I for one am happy to receive some rumours with the knowledge that they may not be correct or that things can change and that reflects the dynamic nature of the transfer market. I think even one of the recent posters on this thread mentioned something last season about 4 transfers incoming and then said a few days later that things have changed. If people start shooting the messenger then this thread will be toxic and bland. From my perspective I am grateful for any snippets we can get so keep on posting!  Beers
My thoughts exactly !

What’s everyone’s obsession with bringing Austin back. Apart from the odd few games, he was rubbish last year. Yeah, FBT would be a good coup but not Charlie.

Cant see Russel wanting to bring him back anyway after Austin slammed him in that Advertiser article recently. He’ll end up at Cheltenham. It’s the only local club that will take him… or maybe Reading, if they still exist by the start of the season.

The only way you would have Austin back is as assistant manager still registered as a player but can’t see that happening.

I think with regards to Austin there is still a belief (rightly or wrongly) that if we kept him in the box & gave him decent supply he’d still get goals & that we’ve decided to (…or he himself has) play him too deep last season…

I dunno how anyone can sit there and say, yeah we need Caz for another season. He’s not even a good poacher anymore. He missed a hell of a lot of sitters last season. A hell of a lot. The man’s just past it and doesn’t even look like a professional athlete anymore. Let him be Cheltenham’s problem now, and I say that respectfully.

Re Austin. Cheltenham aren’t the only club rumoured to be interested - there are non league clubs… I saw some talk from Aldershot fans - which is actually closer to Hungerford than Cheltenham. I see him going down the league’s like pitman has, where you can bang in goals for fun.

I guess Yeovil could be another option, if they can afford his wages, which I doubt. Dropping down to the National League would be sad to see though.

Just hang up your boots man. Go into coaching.

I'm pleased that Austin has gone. I assume that he was probably the highest paid player by some margin which his performances didn't merit. Thought Swindon looked better with Drinan and Glatzel up front.

Very good goalkeeping coach by all accounts and it's a shame he has not been allowed to really just be left to do that. I would definetly keep him around. Also the historical value should not be overlooked, has done so much for the club when he could easily get another gig somewhere else and has stood in when needed. Added to that i would say most keepers have done well under him and all speak highly of him

Fair enough, thanks for the input. Having no yardstick to measure him against, I just wondered how good he was.

As you have all said, well liked servant and good at his job.

It’s nice to hear he’s appreciated.

Not just closer, that's a lot bloody closer.

Austin a hard no from me. He isn't even the poacher he used to be, missed some sitters last year.

I wouldn’t have either back. Austin is done, FBT isn’t remarkable enough to need back. There will be others/better available.
