I wouldn't. I thought he was a nailed on talent. But then again I also thought the other local lad coming through at the same time looked good too and he scored for Melksham against us the other day, so didn't make it.
Sol Pryce really did look a talent when he broke into the first team but has dropped, I heard he had a slight attitude problem, something that could never be said about Twine. Twine always could hit a bloody good shot and obviously had talent, my main 2 issues with him were his body strength in L2 just didnt seem up to a run in the first team but Newport built a team around him to protect him so it allowed him freedom on the ball. The other issue I had was his perpensity to go to the deck far too quickly and was pushed off the ball too easily and ref's were never going to give him the free kicks as he was looking for free kicks, something Williams does so well, even if you are after a free kick don't go to the deck looking like you MAY be conning the ref, make it look like you are actually trying to stay on your feet and free kicks will come, which they did when he was at MKD.

These last two points, body strength and willingness to hit the deck, are ultimately my concerns about having lots of youth players with no or very little first team experience. Many poorer footballers make a living at this level, because they are more physical. Shade for example looks like he may be able to handle himself, the rest...

The problem with Twine was Wellens had no idea where to play him and just didn’t.

Is there a point in recent swindon town history that we have gone cheap with youth and not brought in experienced players alongside. I cant remember it if we have so no reason to fear on previous experience
Could argue last season.

I remember the day Pryce was released. Seem to remember a LOT of unhappy Swindon fans. I mentioned it's quite clearly an attitude problem at the time and was shot down by a bunch of fanboys. To score twice on debut and then only play once more, something obviously not quite right. As shown by his career since.

When I lived in Luxembourg I shared a house with the cousin of Darren Fletcher who had a few stories about Man United players from the Fergie era. Apparently Chris Eagles was far and away the best of that crop of talented players to play in that youth team, but just didn't have the 'fire' to be a footballer and so completely wasted the talent he had whilst 'lesser' talents would put in the effort and go on to have careers at the very top level. I guess it's a fine line between talent and effort (see also, Gazza) in football. Eagles just couldn't be arsed. Perhaps it's the same with Pryce. (albeit at a much lower level)

Very similar to Ravel Morrison. According to Rio Ferdinand by far the best young player any of the United senior players had come across. Largely wasted his career. I guess having that drive and professionalism is too much for some young players.

I did fear that McKirdy might be our Morrison/Eagles, but although he does appear to be wired slightly differently to others, he has enough about him on the pitch to make him a good player to have. I really hope Payne does sign a contract with us, as they seem very close off the pitch and I do wonder whether not having Payne around might affect him mentally.

McKirdy helping Payne clear out the stuff from his Swindon pad? They are good mates so not surprising to see them together. I'm still holding out hope he may be signing a new contract, but as the days pass the hope diminishes.
