Proper Rumour, with no real substance.

I’d heard the problem with Payne is that his agent doesn’t get a fee if he signs with us, whereas he does if he signs elsewhere.

Which if true, is completely irrelevant for what is in the best interest's of Jack Payne and his career but rather what is in the best interests for Jack Payne's agents' pockets. It sounds like his agent doesn't necessarily have Payne's best career interests at heart, which is hardly surprising given what we hear about football agents.

Par for the course when it comes to football agents.

Perfection is not attainable

Reading between the lines of Lindsey’s comments I reckon he’s seen as a starter. ‘He’ll make people sit up and notice. He’s a goal scorer’.

Hmmm not sure myself judging by Barrow fans comments.

Quote from: Barrow Fans
MC said at the time he preferred young hungry attackers rather than experience, as we all saw they weren’t up to league 2 standard/physicality.

Beaten at home by Salford - threw Harris and Wakeling in and they looked like boys against men.

The devil is in the detail. Not an easy task. An option is a top class loan player (no, not like Wakeling or Harris). We have had some recent top ones, but not up front.

Wakeling, never the right sort of player in our situation.

“Wakeling is the most natural finisher in the squad” well in a squad of players who can’t score he doesn’t have a lot to beat does he?

If Wakeling is the most clinical striker at the club but isn’t getting played then we’re in trouble.

Wakeling tried, but frankly I don't think he is up to it and I think his experience with Barrow will set him back.

Not keen on wakeling for the short spells he’s played. Don’t think league 2 is the standard he’ll be playing in the future.

The Wakeling lad. Why on earth did Cooper bring him in?!?! This is not the setting for a young kid to break himself into men's football. I'm well aware he's played at lower league level and that's what got him his move, but he's a million miles away from League Two standard.

Literally looked exactly what he is when he came on against Salford……a kid. There big string CHs must have laughed their tits off when they saw all 4 st of him coming on.

That’s what worries me with Lindsey bigging him up.

If a couple of these are going to be farmed out, fine. If they’re seen as being an integral part of a matchday squad we’re fucked.

which leads me back to my point. I'm not writing him/them off but they may need time to adjust to league football (and the riggers thereof)

edit: agree Aud

Would we be happy to see Aguiar and Dabre as regular starters after their loan spells last season?

If someone had asked me about Scott Twine in the summer of 2020, I would have made all those same comments about him being a boy.

I'd be happy to see them get more game time but I don't think either are ready to be first choice.

I wouldn't. I thought he was a nailed on talent. But then again I also thought the other local lad coming through at the same time looked good too and he scored for Melksham against us the other day, so didn't make it.

Not seen enough of Dabre, but defo dont think Aguiar is ready to play week in week out. He had a run of games last season, looked good in 2 of them, invisible in the others. Rochdale away I remember clearly, he was anonymous. Think he’s another who could do with a year out on loan, this time at a slightly higher level.

Not really.

Aguiar did well but ultimately faded when he came in. He has a future, but with those ahead of him in midfield I can't see him being first choice yet.

Dabre bit of an unknown quantity - but looks a bit, er, raw.

Hey, people develop. That's the whole point. They could prove this wrong

Hopefully Woking away could be the start of a beautiful friendship - need to befriend a local(ish) National League club for players like Aguiar, Dabre, Parsons etc to test themselves at a level above Chippenham/Hungerford/Bath. Would be useful to use our National League South contacts for our first year pros like last year...

Iandolo looked lightweight 2 seasons ago, people moaning about him being a kid etc.
He then worked hard, beefed up a little and can easily now mix it in L2, arguably one of the most improved players.
Give them a chance, the good ones will find a way to compete, and far quicker than we'll ever give them credit for.

Same was said about Twine....he then went and got experience, score a few worldies and all of a sudden big jumps up the league. Fine lines between writing these "kids" off and them finding a way to shine.

Fact is, and I hope we are all Swindon supporters and will support the team that is out there. At least we have a team, and on paper there is a decent spine there with or without Jack Payne.

We'd be in big trouble if Dabre was a regular starter this season *

*I've also written off Iandolo and Twine's professional careers at different points...
