Is there a point in recent swindon town history that we have gone cheap with youth and not brought in experienced players alongside. I cant remember it if we have so no reason to fear on previous experience

Must just be me then. Always one to remain optimistic but so far I just can’t see physicality or experience to equip us in this League. Strikes me a cheap recruitment policy, that was my fear.
Can only hope the next 3 weeks we see a few gems appear because we need them. As for experience that would make me feel a little more comfortable.
Fingers crossed and simply hope at present.

We already have experienced players. Baudry, Reed, Williams, Gladwin & to a lesser extent McKirdy (…and possible Lyden too) and Payne if he signs.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. It isn’t experience we lacked last season, it was game management. Sure experience helps with that, granted - won’t deny that…but..you don’t have to be 33 with 300+ games to know when to time waste, when to just boot it out of trouble, when to shut up shop, when to go long and when to foul people to break up play. Whilst its probably not encouraged at youth level - there are probably 20 years old with no professional games who know how to do that. There will be 33 year olds with 300+ games who don’t.
Case in point - despite having experienced players in our team, none of them are that type of player. That is why we couldn’t do those things (I doubt Garner helped with that either) someone who could play like 2020 Grant would be a perfect addition to our squad. I don’t think they have to be experienced, they just need the skill set we are severely lacking.
I think when I last said this, someone suggested Lyden fits the bill but not sure we can depend on him…
We lack a certain type of player: a gap I think it’s vital we fill. I personally think the skill set required is more important than the age of the player…

I think Williams is that kind of player - not in terms of whacking the ball into Row Z but certainly in drawing the foul from the opposition and wasting time with a few tactical injuries.

Iandolo Given Lyden and Payne haven't signed, that's quite a bit less than last year as things stand Conroy, Hunt, AK, Payne currently gone - can't really count Lyden). Plus you have question marks about whether Baudry can play every game and whether Willo/Gladwin will job share. Its for this reason I think we need (and may get) a few more older heads in now. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. It isn’t experience we lacked last season, it was game management.
For me it was also a lack of options when we needed them. Case in point we dominated Newport, couldn't score, didn't have much to change it with.

Fair points. I still agree we could do with more experience. Lack of depth definitely cost us massively last season. If it was a direct choice between an experienced pro or a youngster with good ‘game management’ I’d take the latter….

Brandon Cooper is a prime example, he’s only young but always appeared to have a wise head on his shoulders.
Would be delighted to have him back.
As many say a 2020 Grant would be ideal so I guess the question is, would Bamba fill that role?

Fair enough. None of us *know* how ready the younger players are to step in. The like of Shade should be "oven ready" of course.

Cooper was brilliant, I loved watching how he constantly talked to the back line. Which included Conroy who was silent in comparison considering he was captain.

Also note how JOB was excellent with Cooper, less so with Conroy, Probably due to the above. Not Conroy bashing, he was very good in the run in with Baudry. Horses for courses.

‘Jacob Wakeling is an excellent addition for Swindon Town, really feel he’ll come into a league of his own in League Two, he’s quick and direct. Will get goals due to his intelligence in and around the box. He now has a fresh start and can go and kick on in his career #STFC’
I do like the look of the clips I've seen. But clips can be deceiving as we all know.

I imagine Ronan Darcy, if he signs, is likely to be the last of the young and inexperienced players that we bring in. Whilst there are the experienced heads that others have mentioned, Iandolo, Baudry, Reed, Williams and Mckirdy(ish) my feeling is it's still very much imbalanced. We are allowed 5 subs this year so potentially we can get 16 players onto the pitch during that 90 minutes (not at the same time, clearly) so hopefully we are building that squad of players that allows good options for the whole game.
The Jack Payne issue needs to be resolved quickly, he's currently training on his own which is far from ideal for him. (and us!) I get the feeling that the terms he is asking for are scaring clubs away. When you hear teams like Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Pompey sniffing around and not snapping up a free agent then it makes me wonder whether they are playing a game of chicken and waiting for Jack to lower his demands. As the saying goes, he needs to take a shit, or get off the pot. Ideally by the end of this week so we know either way and can plan accordingly.
Which could also be the reason why the club is taking longer in getting the more experienced campaigners through the door. Hanging around waiting to see if Payne is going to accept our wage offer holds up movement of other players coming in. I'd be more confident if Chorley was here that we would be able to move quickly to bring them in, but we have to hope Sandro has other irons in the fire that are ready to go once Payne makes his decision.
Looking at the pre-season fixtures, I reckon realistically we might have to wait until just before the Cardiff game on the 23rd until we see the squad pretty much assembled. Ideally by the Eastleigh game the week before, but I can't see us moving that quickly. I wonder whether the club will then leave some loan slots open to work with once the season starts. Fascinating times ahead.

They can also be spot on and still not translate into league football - at least not immediately. Its been mentioned before, but this side of DDR is going to be pretty interesting -can they pick effective players from the many many young technical players? Of course DDR is only the starting point, Lindsey will have to do the same.

Proper Rumour, with no real substance.
I’d heard the problem with Payne is that his agent doesn’t get a fee if he signs with us, whereas he does if he signs elsewhere.
