With the way that were playing I don’t think you need a 20+ goals striker. Just someone who can hold up the ball and bring the midfield/wingers into play and allow us as a unit to move further up the pitch. By doing that, ideally the attacking midfielders should be able to create and score more. No idea from looking at the list who would have those attributes.

If you look at L2 last season 4 out of the 7 top teams scored less than 60 goals. Cheltenham scored 61, Tranmere only 55.

That’s less than 1.5 goals per game. Seems to me that keeping them out of your own net is likely to bring more success.

A bit like what we did with Di Canio, especially at home

As I said this morning.

The goals in the Di Canio side were well spread about. I think it might be the same this season if you look around midfield. Payne and Gladwin have goals in them, and KKH might chip in also.

In a way that’s what I was alluding to, though not specifically the Di Canio team, which is a good shout TBF. There are many different factors at play each season with each team when putting together a squad. For us it’s that + because of our unique situation. Money being one thing, embargo, new management team, no squad to speak of, a good DOF working hand in glove with the manager, 0 expectation, no admin staff. The list goes on.

If a ‘striker’ becomes available that actually suits what the two Bens want and the team requires then I’m sure the money will be found. That I expect will be in January if we’re in a position to capitalise on our league place and use the money that we may have to do so.

in Gilbert's own words

“I play just behind the striker, I like to make things happen, get on the ball, create, play in-between the lines and hopefully score some goals,” Gilbert continued.

So who plays that role now? I guess parsons/gladwin are the closest.

Former Leicester City academy. Scored 4 in 19 for Wigan. Looks to be similar build to Simpson. Free agent.

Sounds plausible.

Wigans best player in the game he played against us, did a lot of running around and looked useful.

That's right, you all pretend I wasn't childishly laughing at him being called "dodoo".
