You’d assume that with them coming back again they’ve sounded out a potential move with Smith and his agent and that he’s open to it.

For all the bluster, if someone offered - for example £250k - I'd be relatively sure they would sell him

Would be an awful deal, however this is effectively old news as they offered this last week and have been fully rebuffed.

Slightly odd quote, Holloway telling the fans to be a bit less upbeat? or am I misreading what he means here.
Taken a bit out of context. Holloway was annoyed at the second half performance at Chippenham and semed to think the fans should have been too.

If Holloway really is getting the final say on incomings and outgoings we're fine. If Clem decides to overrule him we have a problem in terms of Smith and Holloway. We shall see...fingers crossed...

I think a fair few of them were pretty pissed up a well... nothing to read into the comment as you suggest...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0l8l46g16:35 onwards. This is from the start of May, sounds very happy to me and the contract scenario sounded pretty easy to sort. I wonder if something has changed since that.

It’s simple. Clem can make a quick and easy few bucks. Or he can stick, keep Smith, see us promoted and get much more money for promotion.

Not to burst your bubble, but clubs in league one largely lose more money than clubs in league two. Your income doesn't go up that much but your wages have to, in order to compete with those at the top end. Not sure promotion means profit. As well as the fact there is no guarantee a possibly unhappy Smith gets the team promoted anyway.

If we did the same would any right minded Swindon fan think we were serious? It would be, probably rightly, regarded as an offer to make us look like we were trying to sign a player we can't. We've done it before, other clubs must do it all the time to make it look like they're 'trying to do something'. Doesn't mean the player is into it, doesn't even mean the club is serious so long as the fans think it looks good to bid for a player.
