It wasn't a serious bid though Pericardinho. Whilst what you say could absolutely be true why waste time with a joke bid.
I do worry a bit more though now our own contract offer has gone unsigned.
I wonder how Ollie would react if Smith asked to leave. I hope I can on wondering

Can't see us paying to do it, nor should we. Reckon it's a Sobowale situation given he was out on loan at Reading last year
Yeah no fee just that we sort of take over the wage. Or its terminated and weve offered new terms which seems more plausible.

Could have been sent to un settle the player, push him to put in a transfer request, or knowing the sheer desperation Clem may have for cash flow. Who knows really. I could be 100% wrong on this, but my gut tells me that Smith is probably on quite a mediocre wage given the fact he came from a relegated Sutton side. So with only 1 year left with us, if he is being offered 3 years somewhere else on more money he'd be silly not to entertain that. It's down to us to offer him something to keep him here. What we are offering is obviously not enough.

You mean like the bid we made that was accepted by Grimsby only for Vernam to come down and say I don't want to move?
Can't remember if it was the Moonraker, adver or Twitter I read there was also a medical issue Edit: damned if I can find it now. maybe the story was updated

You don't travel from Grimsby to Swindon if you weren't interested in joining. There's more to that story.

Yeah it could have been. It could be the start. Can you imagine the damage selling our best striker to a smaller club for peanuts would do. I believe Ollie when he says he has final say.

Absolutely. Smith doesnt want to leave, Ollie doesnt want him to leave but Smith wants an improved longer contract which we are "currently" unable to offer him due to wage structure and budget and Ollies hands being tied from above. Theres nothing in it with the bid from Cambridge they were just testing the water, come January though if we are still in the financial contraints of Clems ownership then it could be a different matter. Also it would need more money than Cambridge have to prise him away, even in January and why would he make a sideways/downwards move anyway.

Bodin would be the Vernham-style wide player we've been wanting then? Seems to have had a decent career since leaving us.
Lives on the same estate as me in Shrivenham. If he wants local, we're in with a shout ... providing the budget is there.

Seems like some on here have got under some Cambridge fans thin skins with the comments about them not being able to afford Smith. https://cambridgeunitedfc.proboards.com/thread/6501/transfer-rumours?page=1628Read it and have a laugh, its fun. Hi Cambridge fans Comments like Worth a read of the Swindon forum. It ranges between outright denial of why Smith would sign for a small club like us through to an increasing level of fear (masquerading as bravado and denial) that he’s off to a ‘Londoncentric L1 club who’d offer £500k’. Looks to me like Swindon, despite their massive size and glorious global history in the game with millions of fans on this tiny planet, haven’t got a pot to piss in. £125k will probably do it. Notably, one Swindonian mentions our training ground ‘built for 3.5 million a couple of years ago’, so clearly if for no other reason other than to wind up opposition fans, it was worth every penny!
Swindon are, and always have been, a dumb as f*ck football club. Nice to see them continuing their rich history of stupidity.
Wonder what they make of Glenda Hoddle these days? But then again most of them wouldn’t have been born then. I’ve never liked Swindledon since.
Swindon fans. Need I say more.
All I will say is John Beck. (shudders).

We are at the same level as them on (dis)merit, but it's still only Cambridge and Smith can do better.
We don't have a pot to piss in, that much is true.

Mr Morshead reporting that the Bodin deal is virtually done. The Moonraker is well worth subscribing to if you don't do so already...
